you don't make this trade to tank in 2015-16 - homiedclown
I agree but that 21st pick had more value attached to it to trade for a goalie with concussion problems.

I think it's just because the 21st pick seemed to have some real potential and they're underwhelmed about what we got.
I've done my deep breathing and I'm not as fuming as I was, but I really hope this wasn't a mistake like I think it was - Zschalberg
Don't get me wrong, I don't love this trade. But I'm not going to freak out and start throwing things because of it either.
Lehner had a good save % 2 years ago. Yes, he's GAA was over 3, but the sv% is much more indicative of his play. He's only 23. The concussion thing worries me, but really, signing Neuvirth would have been a risk injury wise too, as he seems to miss time every year with some sort of "lower body" injury.
I do not love this trade, by any means, but I don't think it's quite as bad as people are making it out to be either. |

I know what you're getting at there, but was the 2010 team not competetive? Yeah we didn't make the ECF but we won the division and were a pretty good team.
I just see that said a lot that the team hasn't been good since they left and I don't fully agree - Zschalberg
I called it that year that we wouldn't win a playoff series. We won the division in a season were no one in our division could string wins together, Miller got is to the shootout and Vanek won them. |

I agree
IMO it's the wrong goalie
I wonder if the kings or ducks would have moved their backup for 21 |

trading for a young un-proven goalie? this is exactly the kind of trade you make to tank in 2016 - Sabresfan-365
Maybe Eichel told TM he was going back to BU no matter what..... |

Unless as Harrington stated Murray and Buffalo have something else up their sleeve they will finish no better than 3rd worst this season. Legwand taking up Reinhart's ice time and a team with not enough skilled players will flounder just like they have in the past.. Only way to save this is for Murray to package two 2nd's for a guy like Eberle or something similar to that fashion. Otherwise say hello to suffering part 3 |

Is that the final trade?
21st for Robin Don't know where I am and David I'm really a 4th liner?
No prospects involved?
This is a clear sign of TM falling in love with players he drafted. This is a bad, bad trade. Ottawa needed to move a goalie, everyone in the league knows that, so not only did they get a first they dumped salary in the process.
This is awful. - Stripes77

Could have moved up using 21 and 31... - Sabresfan-365
Maybe not. Nobody knows that.
If everyone is so upset for Buffalo trading the 21st pick in such a good draft, than why would any team want to move down in a trade? |

He's 23 and already had 2 great seasons. If he's 26 years old and becomes useless to us, go ahead and roast the trade. It's too early. - TheSabresTaco
He has not had 2 great season. Hes still suffering from concussion and may not even get back to where he was...which was not great...

The No. 21 picks from 2011-2014 drafts have combined for one NHL game. Tim Murray was looking for immediate help with Robin Lehner. - metzeric
This is kind of a poor point as it takes guys a few years to get to the NHL. I wouldn't really expect a guy drafted in 2012-2014 to be in the show as they would still only be 22 or younger.
Also, the guys at 21 in this draft compare to guys 10 spots higher in other drafs. |

How did we "suffer" for the 21st pick. It was not "ours", it was traded for. - rmiethaner
When you trade, your HIGHEST draft pick since Turgeon, most skilled, pure sniper, becuase you want to rebuild, and you do it to get the BEST return possible, you simply DO NOT trade , Thomas Vanek to a team trying to get better NOW, for their 2nd round , concussed, goalie and TAKE SALARY BACK...... |

The only way the "wait to see what he does next" argument has any merit is if we trade Legwand for a first. This trade should be judged on its merits.

Because you get the best 2nd rounder in the deal as well. One team gets depth the other team gets best player (presumably).
In this deal Murray carries all of the risk. |
