Legwand is about as done as a player can be that's still skating. - Cptmjl
I have a feeling that Ottawa made us take him as part of a trade. I bet he is waived during camp.

Legwand is what really hurts..We help a Divisional team that is cap strapped.. with a bottom six center. |

Does anyone actually look at players stats when they talk about players??
Earlier, O'Reilly has put up 60 points a couple of times(only once)
Legwand hasnt done 40 points the last couple of seasons?
51 in 13/14
25 in 48 games (lockout) 12/13
53 in 11/12 - Mentalorgasm5
Okay but that's apples and oranges. With a player like Reinhart or O'Reilly you're hoping there's a ceiling that they havenn't reached yet. Are you telling me you think Legwand will improve and be here in the next 5 years and helping anchor this team to a cup run?
I don't want O'Reilly, but that is not the best argument at all. |

He may be? Ottawa would have probably if they didn't dump him. Like sabres365 just stated you may need him to reach the floor. |

The cost to get Lehner aside, this is another really interesting thing to watch next year. After all, he was a top prospect at one point. We are going to have so many shiny new toys in the toy box - I don't know when we would ever see such an influx of talent in a single year. |

Ottawa has financial issues. Speculation is that this clears space for another move for them. If they waived him they could still be on the hook paying him if he goes unclaimed. |

Are you a fan of that idea? I can't believe his agent is pushing for what he is. Nuts. |

Here's the facts. I looked at his stats saw 13-14 season broken up and didn't realize he eclipsed 40 points that year. That was my mistake and I admit to it.
It is in my opinion he isn't a great player anymore and Murray stated it was only a cap move to bring him here or else Ottawa wouldn't have traded him. His uncle stated that they threw Legwand on the deal because they wanted cap relief and it was non negotiable. That to me doesn't sound like a guy who will eclipse 40 points again in his career.. But what do I know right.... I don't like a veteran center taking up ice time for the younger players again just my opinion. Others have said this as well but it appears that people are starting to warm up to him I wont.
With Lehenr yes he has potential to be great but his injury history concerns me and with all the strong UFA's out there I would have rather packaged the 21st pick for RW and sign a goalie to get to the cap floor.
I'm done discussing it that's as clear as I can make my point across. |

My gut reaction is the same as most peoples here, but:
1) Murry likes BIG goalies and he knows this one, who hasn't had a starter position before. We needed a goalie, and this guy has legitimate potential to be good, or very good, and can step in NOW, which we need.
2) This seems like overpayment, but it's also a worthy risk. Murry likes to roll the dice, and make big trades.
3) It's a first, yes, but whoever they got wouldn't be helping the team for 2-4 years. That's not a priority. A goaltender is.
4) would you really have wanted any of the UFA goalies? Really? - jackzack87
What if we can't get a much more needed player like ROR, because we wasted our 21st pick on a BLAH goalie?
That is my main concern!!! |

im not but i accept that it could be reality. I mean id pay the asking price if he was coming in at 6x6 but 60 mil over 8? that's a lot of coin. |

Its not apples and oranges, someone said Legwand hasn't put up 40 points in a couple of seasons, his stats say otherwise.
And why people care about Legwand is beyond me, he has one year left on his contract and will be moved out at the deadline or let go next July.
I dont like the trade, but why people are butthurt about Legwand is beyond me. The trade was 21 for Lehner. |

I'm having a hard time understanding why TM just helped a division rival? Honestly I'm not saying this to bust balls I can't wrap my head around it. Makes no sense. I could understand if it was for some awesome player than you just suck it up but this doesn't make sense. |

If this trade stopped us from getting O'Reilly, than thank god we made the trade. The last thing we need is another C/LW, which is what O'Reilly plays. Eichel, Reinhart, Kane, Mouslon, and Ennis are enough centers and left wings on the top 6. |

A lot of you guys didn't want to trade the 21st + for ROR that I saw. Now you traded it for Lehner and Legwand. Crazy |
