I know it won't happen, but next years first should be in play if we want a great prospect now.

No it doesn't. That is your interpretation.

What it means is that, in regards to the topic of discussion, the 1st round picks that were spent on them, either via draft or trade, aren't going to yield their teams a Stanley Cup, therefore are not worth having given up for a goalie.
