My biggest worry is not becoming a good team, it's keeping a good team together. Guys will get paid, we won't be able to afford them all, you need depth to replace the players you can't afford to trade. - sbroads24
Bingo
We are no doubt better today. My thing is, I like quality prospects better. You can develop a player, build a relationship with him. You get the benefit of his 2 way deals and affordable entry level contracts.
When you forcefully trade a player, he might not like it here. In the case of Buffalo's history we will likely have to brutally overpay to keep Kane and O'Reilly here. Negotiations with O'Reilly begin in roughly 16 months. |

Reading the Isles thread and found this that was funny.
Bruins trade Hamilton for a 1st and two 2nds.
Isles trade Reinhart for a first and a 2nd (and yes, now that 2nd they got is gone to now be back in the 1st)
Good one Boston
Edit: @cmasisak22 Dougie Hamilton cost picks No. 15, 45 + 52. Griffin Reinhart cost picks No. 16 + 33. That's ... surprising. - stashu
Are they still female doging about Murray's trade for Lehner? |

It will be interesting to see if this "deep draft" actually turns out to be just that and how many of these late first rounder's hit. |

No, they moved on to Boston bashing a bit and then their shock and joy at trading up for Barzal. |

Players come and go. You want to watch a guy develop for 5 years and then lose them? GMs job is to make the team better. He did that. There's plenty in the pipeline to develop. Kane and ROR will hopefully demand a ton and be worth every penny. Game changers |

I think you can have contract talks with your own players before July 1st. Just can't sign anything. |

They're supposed to wait but when they sign on the first you know they had it worked out already |

The Sabres managed to trade away the
2011: 1st round 16th overall
2012: 1st round 12th overall
2013: 1st round 16th overall, 2nd round 35th overall
2014: 2nd round 31st overall
2015: 1st round 21st overall, 1st round 25th overall, 2nd round 31st overall
I believe 2 other unaccounted for seconds from the Mcnabb trade in for the 2014 draft was well.
Wow - Buffalo--Sabres
and they still have:
2102 1st round, 14th overall; 2nd round 44th
2013 1st round, 8th overall; 2nd round 38th, 52nd, 3rd round, 69th (Baptiste, signed)
2014 1st round, 2nd overall; 2nd round, 44th, 49th
2015 1st round 2nd overall; 51st
just sayin'
edit: 2nd rounders were from la in the regehr trade, merely sent them back |

We were loaded with guys within a 3 year span, some of them had to be moved, it was inevitable. |

The team that gets the best player wins the trade in 90% of cases. We got the best player in almost all of them

If they waited 16 months that would put it in October of the 2016 season, I am guessing he would have signed with someone else by then. |

Its just my opinion, but if Reinhart is up this year, I feel Kane should be on his line, I think those two are a better fit than Eichel and Kane. |

I suspect there will be a lot of movement of personnel until they figure out what works best. |
