Treliving, Chiarelli outsmarted, out negotiated Jim Benning. The Canucks will have a tough time putting a positive spin on this draft. Linden stated the "majority of moves will be done at the draft" My take is the pace of the deals yesterday confused them and they got caught at the back of the line. This draft to me is an epic fail. The only team in the west that didn't get better this weekend is VAN.

This seems to be the situation, with the lone excepetions of NSH, CHI, and STL. Certainly everyone in our division improved. Even ANA got Khudobin, who is an underrated goalie and a steal for shedding Wisneiski's salary.

We haven't shed enough to not compete next year though, if the idea was to get a higher draft pick. If we try, with this team, we'd be in with a shot of a playoff spot again. We're still in that middle zone.

There is still a whole summer ahead though...

It looks like that's going to happen regardless

Well that's how it is in sports. Canucks had their chance to win a Cup or 2 and couldn't do it. They've started their decline but it would be in their best interest to suck. But with the Sedins and Miller it looks like they are still a couple years out from REALLY sucking.

Wow, what a wussy. You can talk about the lean years and having to rebuild but the truth is you gave up in 1 year....

If no one wants your old garbage it's sucking by default...what do you want Benning to do? It's an old team that's declining...deal with it.

Some decent picks for the Canucks this weekend. Vancouver will now start their own tanking in the west while Edmonton and Calgary look to be starting their own ascent. Canucks have some good young pieces now they will need to start sucking and getting some top 10 picks the next few years.
- iknowbest

We won't tank, the team will be an extension of the Utica Comets for the season. Competing for a playoff spot got a hell of a lot more difficult this weekend. SJ & VAN will be on the outside looking in.

I was laughed at when I said if Bieksa doesn't want to waive then put him on waivers to make room. It looks like it might come down to that after all.

If we moved these players when they actually had value , I would not be sitting here complaining.

Good luck moving Burrows Higgins

He has value, SJ offered a 2016 2nd.....come on now. Higgins has value, but he's one of those guys who's easier to move at the TDL than at the draft.

I dont think Canucks got "out smarted." They are just at a different stage than Calgary and Edmonton. Canucks are 4 - 5 years behind those teams in their rebuilds. Those teams have developed a good young core, Edmonton in particular, and as a result they are making bold moves to be in a position to compete for at least a playoff spot next season. If Vancouver would have acquired Hamilton it would have been an odd move as the Canucks won't be able to be competitive again until he's in his early 30's. At this point the Canucks need to accumulate as many picks and prospects as possible and hope they get 1 or 2 diamonds in the rough who can be dependable NHLers in 4 or 5 years time.

I understand you want the old core moved so the team can suck, but it's just not as easy as people make it out to be. Benning and Linden are walking a fine line by injecting youth slowly into the fold.

Trade Clendenning , Corrado or keep them in Utica so we can challenge for another Calder Cup!
