You had mentioned earlier that SJ will probably give up a prospect for bieksa at some point. As you pointed out above the market is set by others not Benning. So what makes him untradeable now but worth a prospect later? I would think his value will drop as time goes by. And God help us if bieksa plays a game for us next season. - bloatedmosquito
I said possibly not probably iirc.
Untradle and not enough return are two different things as well
People keep forgetting that Bieksa has a NTC. He waived for SJ. So many people are talking about this trade market for Bieksa the last 48 hours. It's 1 team. I would have been happy with the single 2nd rounder but I don't know the whole story or if it was for a 2nd or not. I'm not one of those guys on here that takes every report for fact and gets bent out of shape over it and constantly chases his tail.
I can live ith the crappy D for now and take the losses. I don't believe in the "compete hard in our division while rebuilding for a contender" strategy that vantel preaches.

the first line I wrote was a Jeff Paterson tweet - VANTEL
WTF does he know about the draft LOL...he's a (frank)in reporter. Nucker and I probably know more than he does.
The Canucks picked some pretty good players this year and last year was a great draft. |

Yeah, I put last year up there with the twins and Bure years - A_SteamingLombardi
Just my opinion but Virtanen, Demko and McCann will all be NHL'ers, which means they had a tremendous draft. Three full time NHL'ers from one draft is awesome!! |

#Canucks GM Jim Benning said he talked to 10 teams on Eddie Lack but the #Hurricanes offer was the only firm one. - LeftCoaster
Lack was not our or anyone else's savior. Markstrom and Demko are our future.
People love watching the next generation or new players coming in... well Markstrom should bring some of that to you.

Markstrom is so much better than Lack in my opinion, he's younger and will finally get a chance to be developed properly.
Demko is so good as well, great pick by Benning last year! |

Like Vantel says, you can't be good unless you're bad. Canucks are on that downhill slide and people are gonna be pissed but it's actually a good thing for the distant future. - LeftCoaster
There are people who want to suck and compete in the same season. They want to draft in solid position while not getting embarrassed in the playoffs. They want to trade our prospects and picks for expensive players while shedding salary and tanking...
Crazy times.

Bieksa will be gone by TDL he knows he wont be getting a contract offer from Benning so he will have to convince another GM with his play, He knows he will be retiring if he sucks this year. |

Given the chance and not being thrown to the wolves, like he was in Florida with a poop team, he'll prove his worth. Extremely talented raw skills and he's getting some good coaching. |

Booner's fault. - bloatedmosquito
I never mentioned a 1 team list. I said he's only waived to go to 1 team... we don't know if others are making offers or what ever. If there were other offers, I'm sure they would have liked to deal him out of division... but it's fairly apparent it was just one team if he was only approached about 1 team.

I know - pick a side and support it. The team is about to suck...deal with it. |

There are also posters on here that two nights ago come on here and try to lecture certain posters about speculating rumours and will turn around the next day and speculate that Canucks were only given one offer by one team only. I guess it is ok for them to speculate but not others |

I liked 2013 better than 2014 to be honest(considering value for picks they had to work with) |

I have a side . I want the old core gone and new players to play. if we lose with Grenier Sven and Pedan instead of these old guys Higgins Burrows and Bieksa I am fine. it is not flopping and easy to understand theory.

Horvat, Shinkaruk & Cassels vs Virtanen, McCann & Demko
Gonna have to go with the upside of 2014 |

As it was put on twitter .
Canucks were not good enough last year and have had a very underwhelming draft.
this is exactly how I see it also.
I am in no way a draft expert, but this is how I view it.
1st round . Never heard of the guy
2nd round. Nothing
3 rd round . Trade a younger goalie for someone I never heard of.
Every round after, never heard of the guy.
Sorry I am not as thrilled as the rest of you - VANTEL
You deliberately call our 2nd pick nothing. Sorry, I see Sven Baertchi but this is exactly the way you bawl about the roster...
We picked up a player who most would be happy with out of the 2nd round. On top of that, he beats the time curve by being a couple of seasons ahead of this draft. he has lots of pro exp already and just came out of a very good play off performance.
You want to speed up the rebuild but are not happy with turning our 2nd into a most likely NHL ready prospect who can score. This is exactly what I'm giving you a hard time over vantel,,, how unreasonable you are being.
2nd round = nothing
This is how differently we think.
