Busy today, but glad they took goalies, even though they aren't the sexiest picks

No way to tell if any of them do anything, but they had to have them, and IMO, they needed to grab more than one, which they did

I would've loved for something to have shaken free regarding a trade of a defenseman for either a pick or a useful forward, but something will be done

- AllInForFlyers

They are stuck with grossman and luke. Did you hear the quotes from Hexy and the GM in Anaheim about how it's becoming a speed game more than anything?

These guys have no value anymore

Wow. Question can those guys be buried in the a? I know Vinny can't but tell me that Luke, amac and gross don't have nmcs?

Marody, Cooper RC – Sioux Falls (USHL) 6’0.25” 173 HockeyProspect.com Ranking: 114

After an early season trade from Muskegon to Sioux Falls, Marody really turned it on and moved along at over a point per game pace for the Stampede and in turn made a consistent rise on the draft board throughout the year. Playing on the Stampede’s first line with impressive 2016 eligible Kieffer Bellows and 2014 Maple Leafs draft pick Dakota Joshua, Marody has been able to showcase his playmaking abilities.

Marody, a Michigan commit, sees the ice very well. He’s a really smart player. Sees passing lanes open up and takes them. It was nice to see his confidence grow throughout the year, especially after he joined Sioux Falls. He started taking more shots and started scoring more goals to go along with his assists.

Rising consistently up the draft board all year, Marody made a good push to get drafted in the middle rounds this year. His high hockey IQ matched with his great playmaking skills make him a guy that has a lot of potential if he continues to develop at the consistent rate he has through his two years in the USHL

Any Black Book reviews on the final 2 picks, Marody and Fedotov?

Would like to think they can move one or the other, even if you have to do something they might not like, like include another piece

Gonna be tricky to shed both...as you say, might not be able to be done

Everybody saw the playoffs -- not many guys who can't move were able to be hidden for long

Very solid draft for us. We land a D man with an incredibly high ceiling and a sniping winger who is said to be "extremely skilled with the puck". We also grab two goalies to bolster the weakest part of our farm system.

If there is any doubt that Hextall is building a team to win 3-5 years out from now those thoughts should be put to rest.

The focus now should shift to moving out a D man or two and getting a system and timetable in place to bring along the D men.

Roster wise LW is the biggest concern for the team now. I'm not panicking though. They can draft some next year and you should have a guy ready in that 3-5 year window.

Well to be fair, I think he's repeating opinions expressed by gms so I would give that appropriate weighting.

None taken.

If you're a GM and you just watched these playoffs and in particular the Stanley cup round. What about what you watched in these games makes you want to pick up the phone and ask about luke or grossmans availability?

Successful weekend.

Surprised but not disappointed they selected 3 goalies.

Happy they didn't have to give up anything to land Provorov.

Would have like to have seen a defensemen moved but I'm going to assume Hextall didn't like the return he was going to receive.

I'm thrilled with the draft, especially the first round. Getting Provorov AND Konecney will prove to be huge. The future is bright.

NHL Network did a short segment on how chicago drafted defense first and then filled in their forward needs later.

The best time to move a dman may be when a team misses out on one in free agency.

Best way to do it. Dmen take longer to develop.

Of the teams who got out of the first round, Calgary was the only one who I thought we could palm a slower defenseman off on, but they clearly upgraded yesterday and are gonna have to pay Hamilton a ton to boot

Vancouver is looking to move Kevin Bieksa, and St. Louis Is cutting loose Barret Jackman, because of their skating

If they are hell-bent on moving Schenn or Grossmann, there will be some finesse involved, IMO...might have to retain something

I had thought maybe a 3rd could come back, but I am honest enough to admit that in a buyer's market, if they can move a guy who can't skate well and get out of it without retaining dollars, that's a win and you do it and move on

That combined with how overpaid even average d-men become on July 1. When faced with having to give a multi-year, 3+ mil commitment to someone vs a 1 year 3.5-3.6 mil commitment plus a small trade asset for Schenn/Grossmann, I wouldn't be surprised if a few teams chose the latter.

Edit: Plus Schenn's a righty and still young, making him a little more attractive in a trade.

Sure they can. but most of the cap hit will stay. Despite what some may think, they do have value.

The draft is about 18 year old players. I don't think anything that happened in this draft signifies Hextall's time schedule.

If we could just have kept jvr and harts we'd have a wicked forward corps and a d on the way. Oh well. Cry

I think that the oilers are still a mess. To me, it's pretty telling that the gave up on dubnyk and now he's doing great for another team. So they go and get the next saviour in talbot. Sorry if you don't have any d, then he's gonna suck and lose confidence. They for seem to want to give up any of their forwards for d help. I think that's insane. Give up rnh or eberle or draisidl for some d help or miss the playoffs even with mcdavid. Even if by some miracle they make the playoffs. 6 5 games are rare in the dance. Defend or lose

It's more likely that St. Louis is moving on from Jackman because he's 35.
