Sorry if I'm late and this has been discussed. But I feel like if the Flyers don't want to keep Gagner, that there should be a trade market for him. 1 year and a 3.2 mil cap hit isn't bad for a 25 year old who routinely puts up point totals in the 40s. I know he isnt' a great 2 way player, but I'd think he could be traded for a pick instead of having to be bought out. Thoughts?
- five4fighting10

Arizona wouldve made that trade already if it was out there.

Flyers in on Kessel per EKlund

HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAH

- Winning

I can't believe he would do it.
Kessel at 8M for eternity seems counter to what Hexy has preached.
And which of our new found D riches go to Toronto with Jake?

Reports are the Flyers are going to buy Gagner out and he will not be on the team.
- MJL

I think that's a bad idea. Again, not a fan but we could use the experienced young center in the middle if Laughton still doesn't show signs of production.

Good write up of the situation:

Still doesn't have all the info but some good starting fodder.

he basically just switched pronger to another team for free and helped them get to the cap floor for free.

I'd be more focused on getting Lecavalier off the books, not two brothers of the ages of 25 and 23.

That was my thinking as well, but still kind of surprised they considered the buyout path and that the Flyers are. Oh well, I'm happy either way.

It's the right move for the Flyers to make, but there should be respect for the player, for the way he played.
- MJL

I guess that was part of my initial reaction to everyone's joy of dealing grossman.
He wasn't exactly the worst D man to take the ice last year

Who knows, but I would think that Phoenix kicked a lot of cans on Gagner.

He's a 25 yoa version of Brayden schenn

Not consistent of a scorer enough to hold down a top 6 spot. Doesn't bring anything of value to the bottom 6

Never know what might happen, but the Flyers are probably committed to Giroux, Couturier, Laughton, Bellemare down the middle. They also have Brayden Schenn who can play center, along with Lecavalier, and White if he is re-signed. So they don't exactly need a center.

So Flyers only had ~ 1.8M of cap space before this deal

They now have ~ 6.6M

Kessel's cap hit is 8M, and you can only spend 10% over the cap in the offseason, so 7.14M

Flyers now have room for Kessel...

Hmmmmmmmmm.........
