The cap relief is great but it's too bad that the free agency crop this year is pretty horrid, especially at the LW position. Matt Beleskey looks like the best option of the group, maybe Blake Comeau. |

It still gives them more options in trades at least. |

Looking at the Flyers cap without having to worry about Pronger's large and annoying cap hit of $4,941,429 is wonderful. |

True, but so far Hexy has kept his word that he won't move prospects. His options for acquiring a top line LW via trade seem limiting based on the current roster. Never know, I guess. |

It depends, if your moving AMac's contract as part of the deal. Your paying $2 million more per year, but your getting a better d man who can play in all situations. It just might be the only way to move AMac's contract. - ravishingone
That's reasonable, and Phaneuf is an upgrade over MacDonald. Many are looking at it like the Flyers are desperate to move MacDonald.

In two years, Streit's contract is done. I'm pretty sure, he probably won't be resigned. A good chance he might even get traded before his contract expires. Phaneuf could anchor the PP and PK units and let some of the younger guys develop and not carry that extra burden. If the Leafs are looking to move Phaneuf and willing to take back salary, this potential deal makes some sense. However, I don't think it happens.

On some levels it absolutely makes some sense, on others, not so much. |

I don't think there's any way the Flyers trade for either Kessel or Phaneuf. It really doesnt make a whole lot of sense.
Winning's been busting our chops all week about Kessel's arrival being imminent. But you know what? He pulled the same nonsense last year with Steve Ott. The same Steve Ott who is blessedly NOT a Flyer.

I know this has been talked about already but I gotta say I dont understand why we would buy out Gagner, even if its cheap. Look if this team is committed to building a winner and next season is a "development" season were we are just trying to play through bad contracts and develop the young blue line, then whats the harm in giving gagner a look. If he plays poorly for one season, oh well were not contending anyway and he leaves for free agency. However, if he starts to live up to his potential you either got a nice younger guy who you could add to your mix moving forward or a nice trade piece to accrue more assets come next years deadline. Unless your using the cap space, why not keep him....any thoughts on this rambling of mine? |

Buying out Gagner could possibly make it easier to re-sign Del Zotto and/or make some other moves.

Hextall has said stuff like "we need time to evaluate things" in regards to a question of a buyout... the bolded passage is probably what he's referring to. If they find a deal that's good but need money to pay for it, they'll do the buyout. If not, they may just keep him. |

The tweet I saw from Bill said Hextall was repeatedly asked if Ganger was being bought out and Hextall said team needs to evaluate options. Nothing more. Nothing less.
I don't necessarily read that as buyout speak. They might be trying to get rid of someone else to keep Ganger. Read possibly? |

I certainly hope so cause the way its being reported it seems they made this deal with the intention of buying him out.

One thing is pretty clear with Hextall running the show. He is not going to tip his hand.
