Hextall's approach is requiring some patience on the part of fans, but you can see a plan taking shape with Provorov, Sanheim, Morin, and Ghost. I think it's reasonable to expect these guys to be in the lineup and contributing effectively in 2017-2018. Some maybe even sooner. |

Don't mean to be picking on you about this in particular, but why is it that the 'Yotes are always put out there as the answer to every cap problem that the Flyers have?
(and they have plenty of dmen of their own, they don't need Luke) - Tomahawk
I am just suggesting a player like Luke would be good value for them. They do have a lot of cap space( that is a fact) and I really don't see them currently with 6 NHL Dman on their roster. |

Great perspective as always Bill.
I still think Hexy is going to make at least one move today to get back into the 2nd round, even it is means shedding some later picks as part of the move. |

I agree but you see teams pass up on players like Parise its insane and as well as the flyers did in the 2003 draft with Richards and Carter, my vote for best first round goes to Anaheim who got Getzlaf and Perry. I know its a bit of Monday morning quarterbacking but the fact that Perry lasted til 29 is ridiculous |

Really hoping we find our way back into the 2nd round today. There's a lot of good players still on the board. |

So Konecny is expected to be a RW at the NHL level? Talk about a logjam on the right side. Jake and Simmonds aren't going anywhere any time soon. Read seems to perform better at RW and A-K is in the system. Someone is going to have to make the move to LW in the next two years if they're not making a move to a different team. - hereticpride
Konecny is likely 3 years away, by that time at least one of the guys you named, if not 2, won't be here. Look at the Flyers roster 3 years ago compared to today and you'll see what I mean.

the perry pick is the one that drops my jaw, again, from more than a decade out.
outside round 1 picks were pretty good as well |

I would no be surprised to see the blueline completely turned over in the next three seasons. Grossmann is on borrowed time that is running out. MacDonald and Streit are both expendable for the right return even if their contracts preclude this move. Luke Schenn, MDZ and Gudas all look like transition players who are as much place holders and long term contributors.

Yup, an eventual top 4, if they all pan out, of:
Sanheim-Provorov
Ghost-Morin
would be pretty damn sweet.
Realistically, I can see Ghost being with the big club by mid season and Morin by the start of 16-17. Provorov could also likely make the jump straight from junior by 16-17 and Sanheim could be here at some point during that season as well.

Considering that AMac is the only guy under contract for more than 2 seasons at this point, the turnover is inevitable.

Grossmann needs to go -- even if they don't get anything back.
Schenn and Gudas are at least RH'd. - Tomahawk
Grossmann needs to go when they have an equal or better replacement for what he does well. That will be Morin (with a lot more overall upside) with Gudas as a spare part. |

I still think they move at least one guy, for both numbers and cap reasons.

I am still laughing Wolf. It will be interesting to see how long Kane and O'Reilly last in Buffalo. However, maybe a change of scenery is what each of the players needed. If Kane can focus on hockey, and get back into game shape, he could be good for the Sabers. If O'Reilly can tolerate a developing team, then he might be a solid player for them. We might even see a fight between the two of them during the preseason...lol.
I am still waiting to see how the MDZ situation plays out. If they move some players does Hexy give into MDZ's demands? To be continued..... - OrangeAndBlack1
It's baffling, OAB1. The Sabres traded 2 former first round selections, a prospect, and a 2nd round pick for O'Reilly and McGinn. Why not ice a young team with Kane, Lehner, Eichel and a new coach, and see how things go prior to the trade deadline? I'm just not sure ROR is the kind of guy you want to build a team around by making him your highest paid player.

Flyers pick Konecny wins inaugural McGuire Award
Konecny, who served as captain for the 67's in 2014-15, said getting motivated to excel was as simple waking up in the morning.
"My parents pushed me that way so every time I get up I ask myself 'What are you going to do?," said Konecny, who was selected at No. 24. "Will I put in hard work that day or slack off. You always got to think there's someone pushing harder than you and that's the way I look at it. I'm going to push hard every day and give myself every opportunity to be my best and make the NHL."
In two seasons with the 67's, Konecny (5-foot-10, 175 pounds) had 55 goals and 138 points in 123 regular-season Ontario Hockey League games.
"He's one of those high-character players, who brings skill, competitiveness, and he can play virtually in any situation and deliver, so he's a player the coach can trust because he leads by example," said Dan Marr, NHL director of Central Scouting . "His teammates trust him. He has high character and no maintenance and he's got the skills that he can contribute."
Flyers general manager Ron Hextall coveted Konecny. He moved up five spots to No. 24 in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs in order to secure Konecny.
"He's got the heart of a lion, and that's huge for us," Hextall said. "I didn't think we had a chance to get him, and we got a call and acted on it quick." |

He's a little ways out but the best franchises are saturated at every position. Being in a predicament where we have 6 nhl talent rw 4 top 4 defenseman if we gain that depth everywhere we have flexibility. Trade guys like simmonds schenn read when they become too expensive and next man up. Our pillars are g jake and out d prospects. Other than that I think you will see several players price themselves out of town within 3 years |
