Simply my opinion.
I firmly believe that Murray has overpaid in every deal he has made since becoming General Manager of the Buffalo Sabres.
No hate , no agenda just the way I feel about his GM duties.
Look at all of his deals.
There is over payment in every single one.
It's just my opinion however, nothing more.
He doesn't impress me in the least.
Ciao for now y'all.

He paid a lot - so what? If he had to throw in Lemieux to get Kane, so freaking what? Same with Compher. I like these guys but geez, look what we got back. We traded pieces for star players - I'll do that all day long.

People have a short memory as we just had 15 years of a guy that wouldn't make a trade unless he fleeced someone.

There is a middle ground between the two.

The Robin Lehner trade is awful IMO, and if O'Reilly signs a non ridiculous extension, then I actually don't mind that trade.

We are shaping out to be a very good team, I'm just not sure how good yet.

Is Pysyk really good enough to take on a top 4 role for a playoff team? Is Risto ready to be a #1? Can Lehner bounce back? Can Kane stay healthy? Lots of variables

Colorado did it with MacKinnon this whole time I'm pretty sure
- JVince11

The difference is that Colorado had players of good enough caliber to stay competitive. The same goes for Tampa Bay and Drouin. The Sabres don't have this.

this is pretty much true...he sees what he wants and goes after it...just so happens that the top-end players he wanted were available and he had the assets to get them

If Tim Murray can't draft or find another player to bring what Compher will bring, then he's got bigger problems.
- buffalofan19

We have guys that bring what Compher brings. We brought in 3 star players that haven't even hit their prime - that costs something. But we already have more prospects than we have spots. Paying the price is fine.

Tally up the over payments.
Before long there is simply nothing left to overpay is my point.
But you guys and gals enjoy.

I'd put Bogo in there. He is a 2-3 defenseman that hopefully has a little more room to grow. Those guys don't grow on trees either.

Things are good right now.

We traded Zadorov, some lower firsts and a few guys that are bottom 6 prospects and got back a slew of young stars and good players. I'd trade the rest of the farm for a few more stars. In case you haven't noticed, you win with stars in this league.

Any analysis of what the Sabres give away in these trades needs to begin with this point. It can't be debated that Murray is giving away a good number of prospects, but we should consider the value of the prospects to the Sabres : there are only 50 contracts that can be signed, and the franchise has to start eliminating some of its prospects to get down to that number. There will be prospects eliminated that are valuable in the market, but who have no value to us other than as trade currency.

Exactly. Do people not remember how we used to have to worry so much that guys like Stafford and Roy would develop? We traded a bunch of mid-level question marks for sure things (and very good sure things at that). We had a stocked cupboard and only gave up one of our high-end prospects.

Make no mistake, like the Evander Kane trade, the Sabres gave up a lot to get Ryan O'Reilly. Still, I expected it actually take more, and was a little surprised at that, but, given his contract demands, perhaps Colorado had no choice.

And Ryan O'Reilly is a very good player. He isn't a star. He has far more hype than he has substance.

This is true, but this is also how you give away very good players, justify.it and potentially look silly.

Not that Zadorov is as good as Seguin, but this was the attitude that Boston had when they moved him. Well, Seguin doesn't fit here, better move him.

Like you said earlier, we have nothing left to trade.

Once Reinhart and Eichel become "full time" NHL'ers, we will have a bottom 10 prospect pool.

- sbroads24

I would rather have a top 5 team and a bottom 10 prospect pool 100000% of the time. The don't win cups for having the best prospect pool

How is Kane a sure thing exactly? He's had 1 and 1/2 impressive scoring seasons and has been injured for big parts of his career so far

Yea people seem to way overvalue prospects. We gave up one high end prospect in my opinion(Zadorov).

Exactly. Even if we do slip a bit once we graduate a lot of these guys, so what? We have a team loaded with young and very good players that we control for a long time. We won't have a lot of open spots. Plenty of time to fill up the tank again.

The award for top prospect pool is hanging in the ladies room. We hung our hat on it when things were bad and now we're enjoying the results.
