I would rather have a top 5 team and a bottom 10 prospect pool 100000% of the time. The don't win cups for having the best prospect pool - Stripes77
Absolutely, but we don't have a top 5 team yet. Not even close.
Half of this team isn't even in their primes. We have no clue what they will turn out to be. |

This is true, but this is also how you give away very good players, justify.it and potentially look silly.
Not that Zadorov is as good as Seguin, but this was the attitude that Boston had when they moved him. Well, Seguin doesn't fit here, better move him. - sbroads24
Speaking of Boston, we all want to pin the Seguin trade on Chiarelli, and the attitude that he didn't fit the "Boston mold". However, after watching their moves yesterday, I'm starting to think that the "Boston mold" attitude came from above him (i.e. Cam Neely). I wouldn't be surprised if Chiarelli was influenced (i.e. given a directive) to move Seguin, and think Edmonton will be fine with him at the helm. |

How is Kane a sure thing exactly? He's had 1 and 1/2 impressive scoring seasons and has been injured for big parts of his career so far - sbroads24
By that I meant that you're getting a high-end talent. We don't have to worry about Joel Armia ever developing or Lemieux hitting his 3rd-line ceiling. I'll make those kinds of trades all day long.

I think it is common knowledge that ownership mandated the Seguin trade. |

Of all of the key players who are you worried about? Reinhart would be the only one. We've seen all of the others in this league. |

We don't have a lot of goal scorers.
Kane could be, but hasn't proved it over time
Eichel most likely will be
Ennis is good, not great
Moulson is getting up there
O'Reilly isn't a good scorer
I hope another LW is added either next year of the year after to replace Moulson. |

William Borgen with the 92. He was the 2nd biggest riser in the draft, rising over 80 spots since mid term. Avg rank right around 95. Simple, responsible defenseman. I like that Murray's replenishing the D pipeline. Smart. - TheSabresTaco
I agree with the Taco as usual
And our next pick was a D - Devante Stephens , Ranked 116th Best Player Available at 125
Both from Western Canada and both in the pipes together.....Love how TMGM and his boys think |

That's the beauty of the moves. We brought in several players that are the hardest to acquire - established good players that are in their early 20's. |

Cmon man - now you're just making stuff up. Neither Seguin or Zadarov are part of this process of funneling large numbers of prospects into only 50 contracts.
Boston traded Seguin because he was a problem child. They didn't want him in the organization any more.
Murray including Zadarov in the trade for ROR because Zadarov was the talent the Avs wanted in the "hockey trade" aspect of that transaction. The prospects Murray through in, and McGinn were part of the contract funneling/trade currency process |

I've always been amazed at your patience....
You provide "Real" insider info time and time again, never brag or boust about it.
Continually get attacked by hacks who don't even know you.
Moulson is a good NHL winger, he now has a Center , well lots of Centers! |

Something I've been pondering while rolling through this thread.
It seems a few folks have an issue with Murray overpaying. That's your opinion, that's fine. I too think he has overpayed some in the past. But try to think about it like this.
The NHL trade/free agency market isn't a store where you buy an orange for $10.99. The NHL trade/free agency market is an auction where you pay for various rare items above market value because you are bidding against others. Imagine stepping into an auction against 29 other billionaires trying to buy a rare car. Some, maybe most, won't fancy the car. But those that do, well, get ready to up your ante.
That's how this works. Overpaying is normal. Fleecing someone is not. |

We did and that's incredibly impressive.
But we also moved a few guys that I'm confident will fit that profile in a year or two |

Is it raining extra hard over there?
Who has goal scoring? You win with good two-way players. and high-end talent. We have had a significant influx of both. |

Sure, some will. And that's where Regier failed - he was afraid that a guy he traded would be good someday. You can't be a good gm and have that fear/paranoia. |

To be fair, a few people hinted that Zadorov had similar issues. |

He also has brown hair.
But neither one of those characteristics is what drove the trade. |

There is a difference in the scenarios. We didn't run Zadorov out of town. We wanted a guy and he was the guy that fit what the other team wanted. I think all things being equal they would have been happy to keep him as he is an elite talent. We used Zadorov to get a better player. Seguin returned spare parts. |

Oduya and Sekera should be targeted first and foremost. Both top 4 LD. Not seeing Green as likely, I know he's very polarizing, but he's aces on the pp. Something everyone here knows we need help on. |

To me the only person who could really hurt is Zadarov, other than that we traded away guys that are very similar to other prospects we already have in the system. |
