Future considerations
BC High defender Ryan Shea is a guy who some scouts like and others have him on their “do not draft” list due to his limited upside and some defensive warts. He reads the offensive play well and has a decent shot and first pass. He follows the play up ice and joins into the rush providing an option. Shea has no trouble skating up with the puck and does a good job of it, driving the play and taking it all the way to the net if there is a clear lane. He battles hard on the offensive wall to keep the puck in deep, but when he perceives the battle is lost or not worth the gamble, Shea will fly back to defend. He will need to clean up his backward skating as he gets a little tangled in his feet as he starts moving back, while almost fully upright and losing momentum in his stride. Shea struggles to contain his man as they drive to the net; the puck carrier easily gets by with some decent speed. A team could scoop him up in the later rounds and hope his time at Northeastern University will help hammer out some of these concerns. |

What's all this Anders Nilsson talk about?
"@MarkLazerus 6m6 minutes ago
A scout told me that Anders Nilsson, a goalie acquired in the Leddy trade, was very impressive in the KHL this season. Could be your No. 3."
Thought he was only going to come over if he was given an NHL spot? With all the goalie movement, maybe he came to his sense and realized that coming to RFD as the Hawks number #3 is the way to go.
Especially is Crow may be on his way out in 2 years.

Contradictions like this from different reports lead me to believe that half these sites have never seen some of these guys play. - Sandus
I have and said this:
Left wing prospect with a nice frame whose has all-around game and makes any linemate a good player. Plays well in all areas and comes to play shift after shift. Has strength but needs to get better in the battle areas. Very consistent and was able to outplay the opposition and winning puck battles again and again. Can get bigger all round. And improving in the tight spaces and capitalizing there is what might elevate his draft status. |

To me, what this signals is that Crawford is staying put. - TommyHawk
Not if Darling is starting, and the Hawks go out and get a veteran backup at a cheap contract. |

Driving a hard bargain with that 4th, but I would take that deal (or at least push for the retained salary and then take it). Can Nielsen still win draws? - Sandus
Gotta try. He wasn't as effective as years past in the faceoff department but he is not terrible at it either, plus he is deadly in shootouts |

Yea, it seems a low price for Raanta, but he is still very unproven, he didn't play the 30 games like Cam Talbot played. Haggerty is listed as the #2 RW spec in the Rangers system and does seem to be coming along.
It is just another young body to compete for time in Chicago next year. - kwolf68
I'm starting to think maybe Sharp to the Rangers - M. St.Louis and Sheppard won't be re-signed, Hagelin gone, Raanta saves them $700K compared to Talbot. Some thought Haggerty was going to make their team and now he's gone.
Sather has no intention of not making the playoffs and he likes big names and salaries. |

Well one thing about all of their draft picks (except Carl's brother John, I know we don't know that, but I'm going with it) is that they all have moved up from their mid term ranks to their end of the season ranks. Not sure what that means when it comes to scouting and if these things are even accurate, but at least its not the other way. |

This is a really good line of thinking. Makes really good sense.
Rags also have 2 or 3 D prospects that would really work as well. |

Interesting piles of horse amnure piling up.
I distinctly remember reading the Rangers turned down TWO second round picks for Cam Talbot.
The Rangers received picks Nos. 57, 79 and 184 in the 2015 draft. The Oilers got the No. 209 pick from New York.
I guess they were holding out for a late two a mid thrird rounder and early seventh....

Just saying if Nash or Kessel go to... let's say FLA, NYI, WASH or ARI well that'll take away 2 destinations that Stan talk to. - TyCamScore
Doesn't Kessel's number and term make Sharp a much better option? |

Not really asking for a justification, more if there was any info that he had better deals he could have made earlier, and he turned them down.
Agree that it would make sense that he could have had a better offer for Leddy at the draft last year, I just was curious if there was anything anyone knew of.
Just like the last two days, I don't know if he turned down a decent offer for Sharp, Bickell, Versteeg, Crawford or the rights to Kruger and Shaw, but I'm going to assume that he didn't have decent offers or he would have made the trade.
If no other GMs offer anything legitimate, not sure exactly what he is supposed to do.
I'm actually a bit worried that this summer's dealings will go right to beginning of the season again.
Just not sure I can blame the hawks from office for it. - vabeachbear
Here is what I heard in a more macro sense...Last year just about every team was caught thinking the cap ceiling would be higher. When it came in lower many teams were caught....It hurt Hawks too with Leddy.
It's not easy to deal a player...even if a $3 million player like Leddy..who couldn't break top 4 here but skated like Coffey, was very young and another GM thought enough of to sign him to a mega deal not long after.
But logically, always the return in a cap squeeze case doesn't grow as the days of summer go on.
Hawks hesitated with Leddy, maybe they were sure who should go...But according to what I heard they hesitated and once cap ceiling was announced they were not in as good of position to get value.

They won't be able to take on sharp unless they move a couple of more roster players. They have about 12 million and still have to sign a bunch of RFA's |

Yea their cap situation is a bit hellish. I suppose the Nash rumors open up a Sharp possibility. But that's a huge piece to get moved. |

Yep - Stepan, Miller, Fast and now Etem... those will add up quick.
Now if they trade Nash... THEN it would make sense for Sharp. |

Zuccarello a candidate for LTIR? Nasty injury and after effect?
He needs to ditch Dan Boyle and Tanner Glass too. |

That was Nillsen's demand from the Islanders. He hasn't made that demand to my knowledge of the Hawks. That was also 2 seasons ago. |

I actually think Zuc is fine now. He played in a charity game a couple of weeks ago so I'm guessing he will be fine come camp |

I cant tell and ive never been a scput but it looks like Haggerty has a very quick release and no hesitation to dhoot the puck. This is from 2 seasons ago. I have no idea how he was last season or how he is on the defensive side of the ice.

K. Understood. If they did hesitate last year or before or at this years draft, that's on them. Like I said, still worried some of this will be the same situation as with Leddy.
Realistically have to move Sharp, Bickell and Versteeg, not going to be easier now that draft is over. Goes past first week of FA and they are screwed.

Sharks traded Niemi to Dallas earlier. Only Stalock on the roster. Who goes to SJ?
Does San Jose have anybody the Hawks could use? Crawford for somebody? |
