Lot of rumors that we'll be after Sekera which makes a ton of sense. Another set of rumors had us pegged to Oduya as well but does the pick up of Zadorov change that?
Sekera/EJ
Zadorov/Barrie
Stuart/??? One of our own....Holden/Guenin/Redmond
That's a ton of improvement on the top 4 but man, I don't want too much of a fall off on the bottom pairing. |

No to Oduya imo, fine player but lets give Duncan Siemens at least SOME chance to earn ice time with the Avs one of these years |

Anyone else unsettled by whats happening in Los Angeles? LA "terminates" Richards contract, conveniently finding a work around from buying him out. This smacks of wholesale cap circumvention. Seems like the 15 year, frontloaded deals that brought cap numbers down....if the first time is allowed to stand, everyone will copy it until it comes to a crisis point. Kings so conveniently are able to resign Sekera now.
People will be quick to criticize Richards, I'm sure he has probably misbehaved in ways LA considers 'grounds'. But from where I'm sitting, he is not in prison, so I can't think of another scenario others teams in the NHL haven't had to find legitimate ways of working around. Substance abuse? Bad attitude? Out of Shape? All of the above? It has happened before and will happen again. If the NHLPA doesn't fight this tooth and nail, Pandora's Box is opened and NHL contracts became like NFL contracts: worth the paper they are printed on. |

I have been off the grid the past few days but been fully up to date on the Avs moves.
Love the ROR return, love the trade down from 31 to get our own picks back from Stuart debacle. Rantanen was a solid pick, really happy we got him.
I think this is the strongest out prospect pool has been in a very long time. Now let the good time roll into UFA. I like the Soderberg signing too. Fair money for him. 250k less would have been better but meh its not too bad at all. |

No Hish? - westonie
I think its either him or Grigo who starts with the club as 3C...but I can't get any clear info on Grigo if he has to go through waivers bc he has a 100 nhl games already or something? He doesn't have that many yet so I think hes safe from waiver claims but not sure?
If Grigo doesn't have to go through waivers, I think Hish has a spot on the roster |

I think there could be room for Hishon and Grigo to play on the 3rd line together. I'd prefer a right handed shot but after qualifying everyone except for Caron, they'll be close to the max number on contracts again. If they have room I wouldn't mind signing another 3rd/4th liner for more depth. I don't think there is any hurry to sign a forward. There should still be a fairly solid player looking to get a cheap "prove I can still play" type of deal.
Defense, they obviously need to get one of Sekera, Ehrhoff, Martin, or Oduya signed right away. |

The everyone but Caron thing by Chambers was wrong. Hes worse than Dater if thats actually possible. Lauridsen was in the not qualified list too, I think there was someone else as well. But guys like Aittokallio area already rumoured to go over to Europe next season. I can imagine Vincour as well.
So we qualified them to retain their rights, I dont think we sign them all to contracts. Heard might even be going overseas as well. So until we see who signs new contracts, then we can judge what we have for contract counts.
But I agree, shore up the D first in UFA and then see what the roster situation is like for the Top 9 depending on the roster and cap space left |

That's such a relief. That would have meant way too many defensemen fighting for time in San Antonio and Heard has been garbage. I should have known hearing the news from Chambers. He's constantly gets corrected on twitter about most of the stuff he tweets. Then he gets one story and runs it into the ground. I'm actually relieved they didn't draft Carlo because he wouldn't shut up about him. He's already talked more about the Avs passing on Carlo than he has about any of the players they actually drafted.

I don't hate the new shoulder patches. They're simple and crisp; however, the yeti foot is still a lot better. The unipron needs to go. |

I really like the idea of offering Saad an offer sheet for 5 mil. It would only cost the Avs a 1st and 3rd or Chicago matches and it messes with their cap space. Who cares if it makes them angry, neither team is going to deal with each other anyway being in the division. It seems like a win-win to me. |

Have to agree, the patches are one thing, but the actual jersey itself is just one of the worst in the league. I hate to say it, but it looks even worse now. I don't know who designed this thing but what a wasted opportunity.
They should have taken the third jersey from the last round (because people actually enjoyed that one) and worked off that. It was sweet, just needed the Avs logo instead of the diagonal 'Colorado' across the front and it would have been perfect. Slap one of each shoulder patch to introduce the 'C' and keep the yeti foot.
Boom done. |

I dont hate them either. The yeti foot was awesome but it felt a little too 90s design now looking back (what a golden age of cartoon jersey designs around the league)
The jersey as a whole needs a major overhaul. I hope with the stadium series we get a glimpse of something great and that starts the transition to a new home and away.

What do you guys think about Mike Richards? Should the Avs offer him a one year deal maybe 1-2 million. Like an article I read said, would you rather have him or Cliche on the 3rd line? |

Richards is not needed for us.
Cliche wont see the roster now. Our Center Depth will probably be
Dutch
Soderberg/Mack
Grigo/Hish
Mitchell
I think we could look at a UFA forward for 3rd line Duties, I would love to grab Frolik now. |

I would go with neither. The amount of guys we have...I don't know if there's room for either of them.
I'd like to see the following (or something similar) where they pick up maybe one forward to play with Duchene only because i'm sick of him getting experimental pieces. I want our number one center to have a number one left winger.
X - Dutch - Iggy
Lando - Soder - Mack
Tang - Hish - Grig
Cody - Mitch - Everberg |

I think Frolik would be good with Dutch too. I think we could have options with how Soderberg plays LW as well.
Yeti Dutch Iggy
Landy Mack Frolik
Frolik Dutch Iggy
Landy Yeti Mack
Tangs Dutch Iggy
Landy Mack Frolik
Lots of combos since Frolik plays both Wings. Good PK guy, just seems like such a Roy guy too |

Very true, either way I think if we land a guy like Sekera/Oduya type of FA it's a start in the right direction for an NHL quality top 6 D. We add one more forward similar to a Frolik level and suddenly you have a lot of options without having to promote from the bottom 6.
One thing is for sure, Yeti will be given a chance to succeed. They know he'll be compared point for point with ROR this season and I like his chances if he gets Lando and Mack while ROR watches Evander Kane fire wide on the far side every rush.

Im happy with the Soderberg move, hes a legit hoss of a 3rd line C, and right now he will fill the need as the 2nd C until Mack is full on ready.
2 seasons you move berg down to full 3rd C and you have Rantanen coming in to be RW with Mack. I really like that flexibility with bringing Yeti in.
I agree we hit a homerun with the UFA d first and then look at adjusting the Top 9 (if they can add a forward on a 3 year deal, that would be ideal) |

let him dominate the AHL this season |
