Man what a magical 48 hours it's been. I don't think its too bold to say that this this has been one of the most franchise progressive offseasons in a long while. The one and only thing I'm mad at is that the Islanders got Barzal. I have a feeling he's going to be a thorn in our sides for a long time.

That wouldn't be good enough............it'd be more like we'd need to start a new religion after him.

Sounds good, they can knock down that Xfinity live crap & build it there, give it more of a useful purpose

I'd like to see them keep Gagner for this season. He's worth a look and if he's playing well they can trade him or re-sign him. I feel like the other options in FA are going to be expensive. Gagner on a one year deal isn't bad.
- PhillySportsGuy

I agree. I think it's definitely worth giving him a 1 year tryout. Maybe they can pick up a nice asset at the trade deadline for him. Plus I would think he would be pretty motivated to play well in a contract year.

I wouldn't buy him out. Keep him and either he plays well and gets his career on track, he plays well and they flip him for another asset at the trade deadline if they aren't in contention, or he stinks and they lose the contract after 1 season. They don't need the small bit of space they get by buying him out that badly plus then it's dead money for two years. They also may b e able to flip him now to another team who wants his cap hit with less actual salary

getting rid of Vinny w/ minimal damage would be the GM equivalent of breaking the 4 minute mile

I want to keep Gagner, because I'm not sure they can get a guy as good for the same reasonable cap hit. He's got one year left, and if he plays well he can possibly be parlayed into more assets

i'd rather have the cap space http://www.generalfanager.com/buyouts/152

gagner has been a mediocre top 6 guy for yrs & he's lousy in the bottom 6. we've seen enuf of that. i'd go for a useful guy like Frolik/Burmistrov or a cheaper alternative

Agreed, I would rather add skating ability to the forwards, not add another guy with questionable wheels.

add to that he's yet another C who really loses effectiveness on the wing

That is where I am

I understand there are tough decisions to make and Gagner's skating isn't great, and he's not physical at all, but his hockey sense and puck skills are plus

If it's me, I almost have to see if he could be the playmaking center Wayne Simmonds needs at ES

If it's me:

Raffl-Giroux-Voracek
White-Gagner-Simmonds
Read-Couturier-Schenn
VDV-Bellemare-Umberger

Gagner, in theory, could also be the quarterback PP2 so desperately needs

He is a flawed player, but I don't think upgrading him without moving assets is going to be easy

I realize I don't have Laughton listed. To me, give him a little more time in the AHL, and if Gagner just can't cut it, you bring Laughton up and see if he is more ready to help, with more seasoning

I always want the Flyers to be aggressive, but I think what they have right now could work

I'm not overly interested in paying another middle six guy big cash. See if Gagner can do anything, and if he can't it's one year and maybe he gets them a 3rd rounder back at the TDL

Garth Snow has never been as bad a GM as people have made him out to be

Always was difficult to ge FAs to come there, and he wasn't always working with a full deck, financially

I think they have been very shrewd and opportunistic under his watch, and one thing I give him credit for is when they decide what they are going to pay for a player, that is it. Either you sign or they move you and move on

valid point, but there may be other options for LW that are less expensive and gotta admit i'm really tired of poor fits in the lineup. plus i want cap space the way some are trolling in this monsoon to score H.

love the hextall as a player and love what hea has done thus far as gm, gagner deserves a chance he has not done to bad on awfull teams
- mydoglicks

Another former 1st round (6th overall) pick who played with an Edmonton Oilers organization who could kill the confidence of mighty Zeus himself. It will definitely be interesting if Hexy and Haks give Gagner a chance to get the job done. I wouldn't be opposed at all.

If they're thinking of a big splash D or winger, I'm all for a buyout.

Even if they aren't, I'm not necessarily against one. Admittedly I'm not sure where his game is, although the stats look half decent. It's not the end of the world if the buy him out

Yeah, another great draft class, good trade that clears cap space and redundant, expensive depth D-men out
