Everyone is blaming Sweeney, but do you think it may have been the owner's principal? Can't see a move like this unless all are in agreement, or he's mandated to move him? |

Could be the money issue.........the owners are still the Jacobs after all. But even with that excuse, keeping Chara doesn't seem to make any sense......even Krejci.
I think getting Chara to wave his NTC would be easier now at least with a struggling team he may be more inclined to accept a trade to a contender.
The counter argument is that the Bs will probably have a bunch of rookies playing and maybe want to keep him to help them develop............who knows? |

When jumbo joe was traded to SJ, I remember reading about how a bunch of teams didn't even know he was on the trade block, otherwise they would have put an offer in. Was this the same case with Hamilton? It certainly seems like it given the return they got. |

What sucks is that Chiarelli made it seem like he put forth a better offer and Boston wanted nothing to do with him. |

I think a lot of blame is on Sweeney, you don't make these moves your first month on the job... But.... This starts from the arrogant and pompousness of Cam Neeley and Jacobs.
To start they fire PC (which was warranted), then the GM search seemed so half assed and laxidasical when they finally announce Sweeney (puppet anyone?)
Then they let CJ hang in the wind forever before they keep him.
Then they just absolutely have an awful draft day with the nonsensical Hamilton trade and use the "valuable" first round picks on second round talent.
I like Quaider but 4 damn years??? Will be lucky to get 200 games during that time with a 70% raise??? Oh ya, they need to get back their "identity" of the "Big Bad Bruins".
I've never been so baffled an I can imagine players like Bergy, Marchand, Rask and Chara must be sick with these moves. 2 years ago this team won the Pres Trophy and next year they could be in the lottery....
I can't make sense of any of this. |

Both Arizona and Edmonton felt they put better offers out there while the other half of the league didn't seem to know he was on the market. Embarrassing. |

It really doesn't make any sense. At first I was thinking holy poop they have 3 picks in the first half of the draft, there is going to be a mega trade. Then they went off the board with 2 of the 3 picks and (frank)ed themselves right in the pooper. |

The worst part about all of this by far, is that Julien, Sweeney and Neely don't understand what they just did!
They think they are contenders, I really believe that they don't understand what everybody is talking about.
And that means that we will be fed nonsense about how we are "Cup contenders" and that we have a solid team and a solid future.
It is the classic "they don't realize that they suck yet" conundrum.
Which means that we have to watch them fail miserably for the start of the season and even possibly for a couple years before some one wakes up, and fires both Neely and Sweeney.
That's what's is the most depressing..........we have to wait for them to hit rock bottom and that may take a few years. - JIwasinskiJr
Honestly this team and with the moves they've been making and what your describing here. It's what we have dealt with with the Phillies since our 08 title
It is a slow methodical death

I thought that as well with Chara, but they maybe held on to him a year too long.
He has 2more seasons at $7 mill? And at 38, that's a tough sell.
I like Krejci, very skilled, and a playoff producer. The way Jacobs stood on the front lines during the lockout, and again, it was always about money.
I think he, and Neely ordered him to make these moves, and then hide behind him afterwards. |

Matters if they are in the playoff hunt. If they are within reach they will be buyers.
Again, they don't understand that they suck yet and truly believe they can be contenders.
That's what scares the sh** out of me.
But they should be sellers.....they should be sellers right now too.
Chara and Ericksson are likely the first two to go due to one being too old and with diminishing value and Ericksson is a FA and will get $5.5-6.5 on free agency.
Next tier will be Krejci and Rask.
But who knows......... |

If Boston can move either Savard or Kelly they could add one of the top tier defenders in free agency and go with a lot of youth up front they still have a shot.
