I'm gonna stop judging the Hagelin deal until I see what we got in Etem. Unknown right now but who knows what an American born high ceiling kid like him can do on our team. He'll be playing with a lot of high profile US players that i believe played for Team USA with him. Stepan, Kreider, McDonagh, Yandle, Girardi, Hayes, Miller, all great US born players. May not amount to anything but it could help his development. Also, I don't know too much about Anaheim's development program but I have to believe that the Rangers are top notch in getting talented young players to reach their potential. That seems to be the trend in the past 10 years. I think we have acquired a lot of young players that never bloomed elsewhere and made them better. - xcheckmajor
I thought Girardi was Canadian? |

on the other hand, if there are teams willing to give up a 3rd rd pick for a borderline 4th line player, you have to think we could have gotten more for someone like Hagelin - steponmytoe
Etems got a lot of potential man. He has good value. |

I really want to know the offers that came into the Rangers draft table this weekend, I don't believe for a second that we took the best offers, Hags for Etem only evolved because the Ducks table was next to ours, man Sather just needs to step down already, break a hip or some poop |

What is Hagelin worth in your opinion? Now note Sather & Co were not going to be able to resign him along with Stepan etc..I think the pick sent the other way was a bit bizzaro but all in all, a swap of needs. Anaheim gets a speedy tenacious 3rd liner, we get a young, big skilled player with upside, & if he turns out to be just good I think it's fair value. We could've just let Hags walkf or nothing I guess, & it isn't like he was going to start scoring 20-25 goals consistently, I like this gamble. |

I agree we should take a look at Hodgson. He could be a cheap 3rd line option for a year or two. Slide him to the wing in between Hayes and Etem. All of a sudden this team is much younger.
Zucc Brass Nash
Kreider Step Miller
Etem Hayes Hodgson
Glass Moore Fast - beardo17
AV hated him in Vancouver , couldn't crack their line up when AV coached there . Plus he may be the slowest skater in the NHL |

Gorton already said we blew it....said at times there looked like better offers were coming but then teams made other moves and they had to scramble. He thought they did OK, which is pretty much true. Didn't do great, just Okay.
I think it was said that Florida offered Hayes, 2nd & 3rd. That is what we should have jumped on. I'm thinking the pair of 2nds was just too early for Sather to jump on and say okay. The 1st that was rumored was probably either conditional on resigning or else a 2nd, or they wanted to include a contract we couldn't take. |

link? cause i'd be shocked & baffled at why our assistant GM would say we "blew it". |

Yea I really don't mind the Hags return. Obviously for people who aren't familiar with Etem, they'll look at his stat sheet and assume that tells the whole story. But this kid is gonna be pretty damn good.
We weren't going to get a guy who already consistently scores 25+ goals a year for Hags because Hags is ultimately a 15-20 goal scoring 3rd liner but what we did get is a guy who could become a consistent 25+ goal scorer as soon as this year who needed a change of scenery. |

Florida offered Hayes straight up or two 3rd rounders and a 5th. |

Really hope Etem comes into training camp in a new city, plays extremely well & forces AV's hand into a top six role because, I feel the same way, he has the size we desire & the tools to be a 25+ goal scorer. Prove all these doubters wrong! Some of you guys on here think Anaheim truly WANTED to trade him. Getzlaf, Perry, Kesler aren't getting any younger, they needed a guy like Hags cause perhaps in their eyes, that will bring them just a little closer come playoff time. Time will tell with Etem but in no way do can I see a scenario where he doesn't turn out to be as good and/or better than Hagelin. Anybody think this finnish kid that played for BC, put up 25 goals truly has a shot at a bottom six forward role? or just a AHL'er till we need him & have a real opening?

I have a feeling my prediction of Glass scoring 10 next year is way more reasonable. |

Emerson Etem prospect profile: thehockeywriters.com/the-hockey-spy’s-2010-nhl-entry-draft-preview-–-emerson-etem/
"Risk-Reward Analysis: Risk = 2/5 Reward = 4.5/5
NHL Potential: Top line goal-scoring forward
Strengths:
*See “One Timer” section above.
Excellent puck skills and ability to protect the puck and shield the puck with body
High level hockey intelligence
Outstanding speed and skating even though awkward skating style
Great work ethic and drive to improve
Great teammate
Flaws/Aspects He Needs To Work On:
Like many players at this level, Emerson simply needs to work on his defensive play. He is, however, very coachable and having been under the wing of Desjardins already should bode well for future success.
Fantasy Hockey Potential: Offensive = 9/10 Defensive = 7.5/10
NHL Player(s) Comparison:
– Best Case Scenario: Marian Gaborik, Jarome Iginla, Rick Nash-lite" |
