. Anybody think this finnish kid that played for BC, put up 25 goals truly has a shot at a bottom six forward role? or just a AHL'er till we need him & have a real opening?
- discojaws

No, not really. All indications are he'll go back for the senior year. Unless the brass offers him a contract, but even then he'll likely need a year or two in Hartford if he leaves school.

Emerson Etem prospect profile: thehockeywriters.com/the-hockey-spy’s-2010-nhl-entry-draft-preview-–-emerson-etem/

"Risk-Reward Analysis: Risk = 2/5 Reward = 4.5/5

NHL Potential: Top line goal-scoring forward

Strengths:

*See “One Timer” section above.

Excellent puck skills and ability to protect the puck and shield the puck with body
High level hockey intelligence
Outstanding speed and skating even though awkward skating style
Great work ethic and drive to improve
Great teammate
Flaws/Aspects He Needs To Work On:

Like many players at this level, Emerson simply needs to work on his defensive play. He is, however, very coachable and having been under the wing of Desjardins already should bode well for future success.
Fantasy Hockey Potential: Offensive = 9/10 Defensive = 7.5/10

NHL Player(s) Comparison:

– Best Case Scenario: Marian Gaborik, Jarome Iginla, Rick Nash-lite"

- rangerdanger94

- Worst Case Scenario : Forward version of Dylan McIlrath

Every single player has a great profile. Did you see the draft? Just by listening to the announcers you would think every guy taken was the next JT

Yea I mean every profile is basically a best case scenario. Etem still has a high ceiling and just couldn't find his way in Anaheim. His career so far reminds me of JT Millers up until this year and Kreiders up until he stuck around permanently halfway through last year. The tools and potential is there he just needs to put it together and I think AV will give him every chance to do so here.

I guess we'll find out. But I'm happy with the return in terms of value. Sucks to see Hags leave but I couldn't think of that much better of a return.

I specifically like the Rangers passing on Oliver Kylington, twice. The Rangers future on the Right side of the blue line. Mcilrath and Calle Andersson.

Or he could be the american version of Nik Zherdev. Million dollar talent, 5 cent brain.

I know this may sound like i'm beating a dead horse to you but I wasn't around for the aftermath of the Griffin Reinhardt talk.. you guys just drafted him 3rd overall, need the defense help & I thought he was a "sure thing"..why was he traded? I just don't grasp it..

Zherdev's issues were drugs, alcohol, and a poor work ethic. Not sure Etem deserves to be lumped in the same sentence as Zherdev.

Not saying he's a degenerate like Zherdev. But could be like him in terms of NHL flame out.

4th overall, plus he's been surpassed by 2 other Dmen on the depth chart who are progressing faster. But I will say, it does take longer for bigger dmen to develop, so only time will tell on that.

The reason for the trade is also bc the isles have 3 legit dmen signed long-term and Pulock & Mayfield in the wings. Bc the kids have graduated to the NHL, more kids were needed on the F position to restock the cupboard.
If you break down the trade, Reinhart + 3rd pick = 2 1st's .... not bad

When we drafted him 4th overall (which I didn't like to begin with) we needed Dmen in the worst way. In the last couple of years we added Boychuk & Leddy and with Pulock & Mayfield passing him on the depth chart he became expendable but for only the right price. Plus he wasn't developing as fast as some would like. He can become a good Dman down the road but his skating needs lots and lots of work. I'm for one ecstatic over the deal
