Hunwick to free agency. Candidates for #NYR 7th D spot as of now: Summers, McIlrath, Skjei. - jimbro83
No way they keep Skjei as a 7th d man. Either he plays tops 6 in New York or Hartford. He needs to play |

He needs to make the team unless he's subject to waivers, right?
I think that is a strong reason while he'll make it as the 7th defensemen, if true.

he was solid. Played the entire 1st round series vs the Penguins because of Klein's injury |

I would like to see this, if feasible.
McDonagh moves to the opposite side and plays with Staal.
Girardi moves to the second pair and plays with Yandle.
Boyle waives, gets traded, and Klein plays on the third pair with an entry level guy like Skjei (with maybe a solid vet to provide a safety net if Skjei isn't ready).
They need to get Yandle in the top 4. And they need to save some money on the defense core to use to replace the offensive production lost this off-season.
Maybe it's unrealistic that Boyle waives and gets moved, but its happened before. And personally, I don't dislike Dan Boyle. I just don't think he was put on a backburner with Yandle's acquisition, and the Rangers can't afford to pay him the money he is making to play 3rd pair (even though they will probably have to). |

Tell twitter to look at the cost of free agent defensemen these days, and ask twitter how Hunwick would look if he was playing 25 minutes a night against the oppositions top players, every game. Twitter is an idiot. |

McDonagh played great on his opposite side against the best players in the world on bigger ice. I don't know why some people are so against this. |

Hypothetically,
McDonagh-Staal
Girardi-Yandle
Klein - Skjei
McIlrath or whoever
And you open up $4.5 million to be used upfront.
To me, that makes too much sense not to politely ask Dan Boyle to waive, and then not so politely exert some pressure on him if he doesn't. |

I think the only chance of this happening, and the ONLY chance, is if Detroit loses out on Mike Green and gets desperate, it's the only team I see him waiving for

The dude skipped meeting with teams in free agency to go to Europe to watch his favorite band on tour. He told his agent, get me to NY. I just don't see him leaving. |

((TJs dons proverbial protective helmet))
Now imagine strahlman staal Girardi mcd Klein for 3 more years and no money for forwards. (Here's where I put the helmet on) Letting strahlman go for Boyle was still a smart move if you ask me. At least next year, Brady Shea (I'm not spelling skeij every time lol) or some prospect won't be blocked from entering a regular shift AND they can entertain Yandle to a long term deal if he plays really well

I think that was the reasoning for letting Stralman go, and I understand that reasoning. And for me, I wouldn't even wait on Yandle. Start trying to get him re-signed right now. The last thing we need is for him to put up 60 points, be a +15 or so, and then be able to command $7 million on the open market. Hell, I would put a very significant wager on him being able to get well over $6 million as a UFA with what defensemen make these days in free agency.
Get that deal done now, and I don't care if he is the highest paid defensemen on the team.

So, with everyone thinking, including Rangers' management, that Lindberg is going to make the jump this year, how does he slot in? Does he play 3rd line center and move Hayes to wing? Does Moore move to a wing, with Lindberg playing the 4th line center? I realize he still has to make the team, but it seems like he is ripe to make the jump, and the Rangers might have to give him the opportunity or trade him if they don't intend to. |
