That's really dumb. That's a Boston type of move for Chicago.
- tomburton99

Chicago has been doing this for years with their middle players. They have their core players that they pay, and the second tier guys get recycled for draft picks when they graduate to the next salary level and our replaced by entry level contracts. They have done a really nice job of recycling the talent in Chicago to maintain the level of play while brining young guys up through the system.

Saad was supposed to be their next core player though. The guy to phase out Hossa/Sharp. Oh well.

They also signed Brendan Smith to a 2 year/$2.75 million per deal or something close to that.

The Jets also re-signed Stafford for two years, bit over $2 million per.

Huge disappointment for them. Probably going to spend some of that money on Mike Greene or Paul Martin.

I don't think this falls under that. I think Saad is a player you keep around. Sharp, Veersteeg, Bickel, Oduya seem like those types. Figured Saad was in this Core group.

It's a nice luxury when you have a sick core like they do

They also got rid of Buff after they won the 1st Cup. Bolland as well. It's the Hawks model, but I do agree, I would have hung on to Saad. I would have expected a much bigger return than Arty and Dano.

Does free agency really start tomorrow. I can't remember when it has ever been this quiet on the eve of UFA day. Perhaps it's because of a crap UFA class and the Rangers being cap strapped.

Honestly with all this really poopty, underwhelming returns for young guys, I will be happy just holding on to Hayes, Stepan, Kreider, etc. till Sept.....
