We can't win Jan, I value your opinion, hate that it's taboo to give the Rangers any criticism, the second you post it you get swarmed by "you're always negative" - HankdaTank
Thanks, comes with the territory. Despite being a fan, have to try and be as impartial as I can when evaluating the team. |

Per today's Miami Herald:
Florida was offering a collection of draft picks (believed to be its pair of thirds as well as a fifth) and, according to the New York Post, restricted free agent Jimmy Hayes. Hayes' younger brother Kevin just completed his rookie season with the Rangers.
Jimmy Hayes scored a career-high 19 goals for the Panthers last season.
"We were one of the finalists, it was down to the wire,'' GM Dale Tallon said. "It was obviously between us and Edmonton. There were four or five in the mix and it came down to the two of us. I guess they wanted Cam to play out west so that didn't work in our favor. It just didn't happen.''
Richards adds that Florida viewed Talbot as the heir apparent to Roberto Luongo. - airjan23
If there was one team Talbot wouldn't resign with it would be Florida, why would he wait for Luongo to finish out his contract? Great job Slats, we could have answered a big need in size with Hayes, like I said Sather sucks |

The way I saw it, if they were going to take on Hayes new deal, why not just keep hags then? Rangers had to cut salary. I would much rather have hags over jimmy |

well, according to Brooks, because we lost Hagelin we are going to go from a President's trophy winning team to a playoff bubble team, so it's even gloomy in the papers |

I bet if his name was Jimmy Kreider you wouldn't care if he had less goals than Glass. |

Meh, I think there are people that are the "poop rainbows people" everything is wonderful. Then you have the people who are everything is awful. I try to be pretty even keeled. I do think as of right now we are not a better team than last year. Don't think it makes us a bubble team or anything. Thats quite a stretch. I will wait to see what other moves are done. If it turns out these are the only ones, we are still very easily a playoff team. |

Might want to rethink that one. Plus the women who carries that beast for 9 months might have a say in it to. |

I think the gloom and doom completely overwhelmed the even keeled yesterday and that forced the even keeled to look like they were drinking kool aid.

Well after Hags was traded because he's gonna ask $6 mil a year (I've seen that number for multiple Rangers fan ) they could have gotten some size for less money than Hags and still fit Etem in the line up
Nash-Brass-Zucc
Kreider-Stepan-Miller
Etem-Hayes-Hayes
Lindberg-Moore-Fast
We could have had the American Hoser line EHH |

Yea the offseason transactions haven't really even started yet. I think a few more moves could still happen |

Going to be very interesting. Unless Miller, Fast has a setback there really are only 2 open spots right now barring injury. Hopefully Stepan decides to just sprain something before camp, this way he is back for the opening of the season. |

The only thing that worries me about the Etem trade (and the timing of it especially) is that I have a long running theory that when Sather busts on his first round picks he goes scrambling for replacements from that draft year to try and justify that particular draft.
2003 - Jessiman - later traded for Zherdev & B. Boyle
2004 - Montoya & Korpi - later traded for Wolski
2005 - Staal - *traded for no one
2006 - Sangs - later traded Brass, Sheppard, and Chris Summers
2007 - Cherepanov - later traded for McDonagh
2008 - MDZ - *traded for no one, but you could argue he gave us a couple of good years (not really a "bust")
2009 - Kreider - traded for J. Moore & Erixon (when CK was bouncing between AHL/NHL) - then traded away assets after CK stuck
2010 - McIlrath - acquired Kevin Hayes and traded for Emerson
2011 - Miller - *traded for no one
Maybe McIlrath follows in the CK timeline, but my guess is Sather is loading up on 1st rd talent from 2010 just in case we lose McI on waivers this year if he doesn't stick with the Big Club |

Wonder how Talbot feels knowing that Sather decided to send him to the tundra known as Edmonton over sunny Florida |

I really don't think he consciously looks for a guy from a specific draft year because he wants to make a bad pick year look better
I think they probably scouted the hell out of some of these guys that he has gone out and acquired later though, I am sure back in 2010 the team was well aware of Emerson Etem |

This train of thought has crossed my mind too but I can only agree with the Jessiman and McIlrath years, those were two major blunders

I think the rangers can make up the 38 goals and more with the current projected roster . They will see more goals from ..JT , fast , Hayes , Kreider , EE . I can see JT around 15 g , fast between 10-15 , Hayes and Kreider five more each and EE between 15-20 . |

to me, Fast is the key. I think they saw a lot they liked in the playoffs when his ice time increased when Zucc went down and they expect big things |

you know what's possible? next year at this time us being pissed at Sather for not signing Etem to a multi-year extension, only giving him a one year qualifier after he has a breakout season this year |
