They're close to the cap (i think) and have Reilly now. I think they'd try to move spurgeon first but the right offer could entice them. - we-365
Forgot about Reilly.
Scandella would be great, I have no clue what it would cost though. He's pretty young. Wonder if he's asking for a lot of money. They have Dumba, Brodin, Suter, and now Reilly. |

The Lehner trade was crap... On paper at least...
Until we see how Lehner actually develops (Guy is only 22-23 years of age) and Colin white develops we can't really judge this trade.
I for one am hoping Lehner proves critics (Which I am one) wrong and delivers as a good starter. |

And Spurgeon.
Dumba and Spurgeon are on the last year of their deals too.
I'd support a move for Scandella. |

He's on a fair contract i think (5 more years at around 4 mil) but they've got some RFA's coming up and have a need at Centre so there may be something Murray could work out with them. |

Right, and the sabres upgraded their offense without decimating their NHL defense which is why the trade had a chance to go down. - ieetbred
Actually Sabres D took a big hit in losing Myers. BoGo is good defensively that is about it and plays physical.
With the loss of Myers and Zadorov our defense is worse then it was last year. |

That be a good move. But not the 2nd. Throw in a third and another later round draft pick. |

I haven't seen to much of him but I imagine his going rate will be that of what a #3/4 d-man usually gets. |

Ive already posted this probably 3 times here, but nobody should feel like we overpaid for ROR or Evander Kane.
Our roster is now full of guys (sans Moulson and Gionta) who are established NHL proven players 24 years of age or younger pretty much surefire things. Kane, ROR, Eichel, Ennis, Girgensons, Reinhart, Larsson, Risto, Bogosian.... thats a hell of a core of players to have 24 or younger. With a few more years to go until they hit their prime (around 27-28).
In the case of ROR, do you think Grigorenko or Compher were going to jump Eichel, Reinhart, Girgensons, Larsson on the depth chart? Very little chance for Grigo to jump 1 or 2, zero chance for Compher. ROR trade basically becomes Zadorov + 31 in terms of lost value to the Sabres. I make that every day of the week.
In the case of Kane, do you think Lemiuex has a shot of getting by Ennis, Girgensons, Foligno? No. Bailey, Baptiste? Theyve had better junior careers thus far. He was expendable. Armia was drafted in 2011, 4 years ago, and made no steps toward showing he was NHL ready. The guy we traded for replaced what we wanted Armia to become. We traded that potential for that certainty. Stafford was an expiring UFA who we had no plans to re-sign. They needed a body to replace Kane, and it looks like he will re-sign there, so good for him. Kane trade basically becomes Lemiuex + 1st in terms of lost value to the Sabres. I make that trade every day of the week. - theblueandgold

left handed shot
good for a few hits and blocked shots per game
not muck pp time, so given his ice time, must be really good 5 on 5 and pk

51 - Brendan Guhle
There were a lot of other higher projected picks still on the board, but its hard to say that Guhle was a reach here with his potential. He was a late riser as opposed to an early scouting favorite (IE Kylington, Dunn). As a scout, you are trying to project what a guy is going to do at the professional level, not how good he is in Juniors. I think Guhle is a very safe pick here and I like the pick. He is built and plays like a tank. Likes to play physical and takes it on too. The kid is a workout freak. He registered 7 top 10 finishes tying Jack Eichel at the Combine. He is an excellent skater. Has good explosiveness (as proved by fitness testing long jump and wingate) and footwork. Great hands and a good puck mover. Had an excellent second half of his season and will carry that into next year when he is the number 1 guy in PA.
92 - Willem Borgen
I honestly dont know much about him at all, cant really comment on his play. I think the Sabres wanted the guy who went 1 pick before them to Chicago -- Dennis Gilbert -- as I heard there was some disgust at the draft table after Chicago made that pick from a friend who was at the draft. I was hoping for Filip Ahl since he slipped this far. I had him rated as a 2nd round pick, so the 4th round wouldve been great value.
122 - Devante Stephens
This kid could end up being the real steal of the draft. If he played the entire season like he did when he got comfortable and settled down, he wouldve been gone in the first 2 rounds. Amazing he slipped to us in the 5th. Another late riser in his first junior season. Just became real poised and a stud for Kelowna in their run for a Memorial Cup. Was playing top pairing minutes by the end of it with Bowey and Morrissey. Kelowna has a good reputation for manufacturing NHL quality D, so I have high hopes for Devante. He'll be the #1 in Kelowna next season with Bowey and Morrissey turning pro, and he'll be a guy to keep an eye on.
152 - Giorgio Estephan
Another late riser with regards to his draft stock. He scorched through the 2nd half of the season to put up impressive numbers (1.09 ppg) and finish strong. Second half finish is most likely what earned him a spot to be drafted in the later rounds. Pretty skilled player, but not a very strong skater. Long shot to make an impact in the NHL. Killer name though. Im rooting for him.
182 - Ivan Chukarov
Know really nothing about him other than hes an overager who played in an inferior American junior league. - theblueandgold

when you look at a fringe third liner drafted 2nd overall, it should look like something that stinks
