What would you consider "significant"?

I don't think he's going to play first unit PP minutes. I think he'll probably get a spin with the 2nd unit.

Lord knows he can't take Nielsen's spot!

I think dcb's on the right track. They'll bring in a depth guy, or if not Mayfield will probably be in the 7 spot with Pulock as the call-up when necessary. Mayfield's played a couple of seasons in the AHL, so he can probably stick around with the Isles, but I think they'll trust Strait and Hickey with the important games over Mayfield or Pulock. Just using history as an indicator.

I mean, yeah, if Pulock comes in looking like Leddy but with Boychuk's shot, then I don't think even our coach could justify not playing him. But that's probably not going to be the case yet. He'll probably have nice flashes of brilliance with common rookie mistakes...and Cappy's usually pretty tough on rookie mistakes compared to vets doing the same.

Richards (LA), Parenteau (MTL), Fistric (ANA) all clear unconditional waivers. Cody Hodgson (BUF) and Viktor Stalberg (NSH) on unconditional

Yeah I forgot that I wanted to make a "re-sign PAP" joke, but my ban prevented that.

Mayfield still has a lot of work to do, I don't see any reason for him to sit in the press box as a 7th defenseman. Staple has, on numerous occasions, said that he fully believes that Pulock will be the 6th defenseman this year, at least to start. Does he still all year? Maybe not, and if it's because he experiences normal growing pains than that's totally fine. But to start the year Pulock is going to be the 6th defenseman, Strait the 7th, and Mayfield is going to be in BPT continuing his development and playing top-pairing minutes.

If he earns it, then that would be a hugely successful year for him.

Would you take a flyer on Viktor Stalberg? I would think that type of free agent Snow will probably go after?

Nashville's waived him twice and CHI let him go for nothing. I don't think he's better than anyone on our roster. I'd take him on a two-way only and he'd be in BPT unless there was a catastrophic amount of injuries.

I'd rather keep grabner.

Not to say he's useless, but that we already have enough middle six forwards. I don't want to see Grabner go, but I think it's almost certain he does. There's really nothing out there in the ufa crop that would be compelling as a top six forward. Might be a couple of options for a gritty third line vet, but other than that...it's not a good crop.

It's the elephant in the room, even if the HB Isles Mob casually dismisses it.
- UIF

Are they really dismissing it? Or is it some don't feel the need to cry and complain about it everyday in every thread knowing crying about it won't change anything? I'm gonna go with the latter on this one.

Tough to read those comments.

While we would all like to see a little tweaking lets not over react if the team stays mostly intact. This team had over 100 points last year and lost a tough series in 7 without their best Dman and by the end of the series were down to 3 healthy Dmen.

You're right...it's the type of FA Snow targets...bringing in depth players to compete for spots. But this season especially, I don't see the point. The need up front is not depth, but a true scoring winger (unless Capt. wants to pencil in Petrov on the top line!). There are more middle-six forwards than spots available, and they're not untested rookies this time, but players who have already proven that they belong, so signing another one to throw into the mix seems like a waste to me.

Heaven forbid Isles fans overreacting to a team that has not won a playoff series since 1993. Sorry I need to see some tweaks to this team. I do not always want to be waiting on these prospects to finally develop or the coaching staff to get a clue. Garth and company need to be more aggressive in building the current team with JT in his top years.

Losing visnovsky and adding pulock is likely an improvement just simply because visnovsky isn’t likely to play more than half a season again. Grabovski had an injury filled year and will likely be more productive. Nelson, Strome and Lee hopefully won’t take steps back, a step forward would be a boost, but there could be some risk here.

Overall, if the team stays relatively intact I don’t see us regressing much and we could potentially be a bit better if injuries are relatively minor. It’s hard to say though. I would like to see a top line winger added but it’ll come down to cost in assets and availability of the right player. I’m fine to sit back and see what happens through camp. Lot of time for things to happen.

Exactly. If I have one general gripe about Snow's choice of players, it's that he seems to opt for guys who are either small or play small (think Bailey). It was tough watching the Isles' top 9 forwards get pushed around for most of that Caps' series.

Who said waiting on top prospects? Who do you wanna trade for? What stud sniper do you think you are going to get without giving up Nelson, Strome or Lee? Not only that you'll have to give up probably at least two of them and more. Nobody in UFA to fill that role so let's hear what you got?

It all depends on which team you think the Isles were closer to: the one that piled up points from Oct. - Dec., or the one that used up most of that cushion and went sub-.500 from Jan. to April. I don't have the answer, but I'd still be hunting for an improvement or two beyond a minor tweak. I think the mistake after the Pitt series was buying too much into the good and dismissing too much of the not-so-good.

I dont think we need much but I would have preferred we moved on from hickey but its not the end of the world as long as the coach utilizes him properly which leads us to the other problem.
