I just don't get it, what does Hickey possess that the fans don't see? I don't want to hear about hockey IQ...... |

I saw the Isles logo and just clicked on the blog without noticing who the writer was and my immediate thought was "well, looks like Dee is back" |

Not sure if I'm late to the party but Lee and Isles are in deep talks.

I'm ready to head over to the Oilers blog to call Reinhart a bust. Who is with me?

I don't get what you don't get. He is a good depth defenseman; positionally sound, durable and has some offensive skill. |

Not a fan of him, he was just ok with NJ/WINN but seem to find a home in CHI, so not really high on him, rather have someone else...... |

It doesn't matter because they won't get into a bidding war with any of the top free agents anyway. Not expecting much to be honest from here on out |

Honestly, I think the Reinhart trade was good for both sides.
For Edmonton: Reinhart was a local legend (Oil Kings), he loves the area and wants to be part of the team (Which is a big bonus down the road since he will be motivated), and he has the tools to be a Top 2 Great defender (Which the Oilers badly need).
For the Islanders: You get the 16th pick, which in turn was Barzal and I think that is the only reason New York made that trade; if he wasn't there, this trade would not have been done. Barzal is going to turn out to be a good Top 6 centre if he reaches his ceiling; his minimum would be a Top 9 Centre; good vision, good skating; great player overall.
As for Reinhart's development; his skating needs quite some work, but his vision, size, stick-handling, and shot are all in his favor. If he develops to his ceiling, he would definitely be a Top 2 amazing defender, if not, he still will be a great Top 4 defender. I think that if he spends one more year down in the AHL, he will be ready for that big jump.
I've noticed the bashing done by the NYI blogger on Reinhart, but have you ever considered that he was not motivated when he came to New York? Granted that WHL to the AHL is a significant jump, but like one philosopher once said, excellence then is not an act, but a habit; plus defenders take a lot of time to develop; especially bigger defencemen. |

If reinhart wasn't motivated to make the nhl with the isles he's got far more serious issues than where his game is currently. |

Totally agree on the trade, but its a difference of opinion of how Reinhart is being perceived. Grant it, bigger dmen do take longer to develop and which may be the case, but bc the isles had 2 others that have surpassed Reinhart made the luxury for the isles to make this type of trade. Time will tell on Reinhart, but not from an islander perspective bc the isles already have 3 dmen signed long-term and 1 possible stud in the wings. Really hope the kid works out for the Oilers and do believe he wanted to be closer to home or wherever.
I personally didn't like the pick then, and glad to see that a good return was obtained. Best of luck to Griffin & the Oilers......

One, I get. If we need Hickey for two years, we're f***ed. At least Snow isn't paying him $5M....oh, that's right, we're not the Flyers. - dcb1
Not really. He can slide into the 7th dman role for the final year of his deal. |
