Buyouts can't occur till the 1st... Technically, its still the smart move to not give any clue they are doing it until its time. - Guile

That's how I feel. Wasn't sure if they were going to go for lower cap hit or longer-term. - Tojo.
Longer term was the right call. Doubt anyone disagrees. |

Of course I like the idea of signing Frolik, but I think trading for a boneafide scorer is more urgent and I'm not sure we can do both with cap restrictions. Naturally, signing Frolik would be awesome. He could really blossom next Sid or Geno or a futer third line with him and Sundqvist would rock moving forward in the future. However, if he's gonna get five mil then we can't really trade for a scorer so if he doesn't pan out as a mainstay in our top 6 we're kinda f-ed. - Victoro311
That's why I wouldn't sign Frolik. Good player, but doesn't boost their offense much. And make no mistake the last 3 years lack of offense was why they lost. So they still need a scorer and have 5M less. |

Cole at that deal is great value. Top 4 young dman at that price is insane.
It will be really interesting to see what BB's contract is. Cant imagine anything over 1.5 per. |

He's a great Kunitz replacement though if we ship him out (not in terms of style). And that balances out the finances a bit.
Stylistically, Frolik is almost like a younger Dupuis. |

I'd be shocked if he gets any more than his last deal... 1.2 max in my mind. |

BTW, saw today Andy Strickland reported Blues told at least one team they would be willing to pick up 2M on Kessel. Not sure how true, Strickland is usually reliable but also had the Ducks trading Gibson. But it's topical for us, I don't believe for a minute that all Rutherford wants to do is sign Frolik. |

#Pens RFAs Bennett, Farnham, Payerl, Uher, Cole, D'Agostino, Dumoulin, McNeill and Hartzell must be qualified (or signed) by 5 pm today. |

Hopefully it's with someone else. IMO he's had more than his second chance. Just not a fan of him. |

The issue I have with Frolik is what will we expect him to score with Crosby/Malkin? Excluding a huge synergy boost like Kunitz and Dupuis got... 22-27 goals for ~5mil.
Hes a good 2 way player, which is always good, but thats pricey for not even expecting 30 goals and maybe 25. |

Yeah, agree, that just isn't worth 5M to me. Even if you fit it this year, you limit your moves going forward when Maatta and Pouliot get their fat raises. |

I'd much rather sign Frolik for $5m/yr than trade for Kessel. |

By "Blues" I assume you mean the Leafs? If not, I'm confused. |

Kessel at 6 mil sounds a lot better. That means that return goes up significantly though |

I think Frolik is exactly the type of player the Pens need more of. He is in that Hornqvist mold. Good skater, plays a 200 foot game, has scoring ability, and is far from being a defensive liability. I think scoring will come with playing with Sid or Geno. |

Does anyone know who Frolik's centers have been when he was all three teams (panthers, hawks & jets)? I dont recall him playing top 6 role...

Yep. Can you say good bye Pouliot, Kapanen, 2016 1st, Murray, and maybe Scuderi. Everyone OK with that? I know I'm not. |

Oh my, yes. Kessel at $6M is a no brainer...all 8 teams on his list are now listening intently. |

IF they're retaining 2 mil I don't think you have to worry much. There will be 15 other teams with better packages lining up |
