How do you arrive at that conclusion given that the only natural RW on this roster is brian gionta? - Mentalorgasm5
Are you stealing Cam Neely's Stash of "Mind-blowing-Green"?
Thats exactly what I stated.
The most glaring need up front is a Legit Right Winger who is a pure sniper.....
I think we're good, right?
I know you don't care for me but I believe we agree on this point. |

1. Paul Martin
2. Johnny Oduya
3. Reggie Sekera
4. Matt Irwin
5. Francois Beauchemin
These are the UFA D man in order that I think they go after. One of these guys they will sign on Wednesday.
Murray also mentioned he has talked to teams about trading for a D man. Here is my wild and far fetched guesses on players in that category:
1. Brenden Dillon- major pipe dream, I know.
2. Andrej Sustr- why not
3. Bieksa/Hamhuis
4. Jordie Benn
5. Keith Yandle-lol
6. Zach Redmond- why not do another deal with the Av's
7. Calgary just got Hamilton and could possibly move a D out. Derek Engelland played for Bylsma in Pitt, or could a guy like Tyler Wotherspoon be expendable?
These are just some fun ideas to kick around as we approach Wednesday. |

No surprises here but it think we target these three subsets:
Odulya or Martin - 3 of 4 years at $5 per. Won't affect out cap situation all that much, as they're contracts will expire when we start re-upping the youngins
Frolik or Williams - very similar players except for age
Goalie for Rochester or possibly a back up for Buffalo |

Engelland doesn't make sense at all. We need a top pairing D and he's pretty much like Weber. Thanks but no thanks. |

Good thoughts here. Based on Oduya and Martin's age (33 and 34), I wouldn't offer more than 3. I like Frolik but do we have a spot for him?
Murray has said that Chad Johnson will be the backup but I'm not necessarily biting on that so a back up in Buffalo could happen. Lindback, Greiss, Gustavsson.

I wonder what's holding up Eichel from announcing he's going pro?
Is there an event coming up that he's waiting to do it? I know rookie camp isn't for another week and a half I think. But he said he'd be announcing it a few days after the draft.. |

Murray has been pretty honest about everything so I'd bet Johnson is the backup |

Then he better play Lehner about 75 games. |

Those are all pretty standard numbers set in stone aren't they? The way he made comments like "Some things have come up that make the decision clearer" etc. etc. Then saying you'll have to wait and see, can't let the cat out of the bag. Make it seem like he's waiting for a special time to do it but I wonder what that is.. |

I think the max he can sign for is $975K, or something like that. |

I think it's just simply a matter of him being advised not to say anything until he signs on the dotted line. |

Good list and I agree with most on it but I would personally stay away from Engelland and Bieksa. They are both too slow. Bieksa looked really bad in the Calgary series. Hamhuis on the other hand would be a nice pick up if the cost was reasonable. Steady player, nothing flashy. An older version of Pysyk.

I'll admit that tossing Bieksa and Engelland were reaches, just throwing some names out there for conversation. Vancouver needs to shed salary and I would be in favor of Hamhuis but in a trade I would prefer someone younger. |

Sabres give qualifying offers to D'Amigo, Larsson, Leduc, Lieuwen, Pysyk, Schaller, Varone. They do not for Dalpe, Sundher, Samuels-Thomas. |

I have to think any defensemen acquired via trade will be a long term solution.
Gormley
Ouellet
Gelinas
Scandella
Wiercoch
Would be my list. |

Would've liked to see them give Samuels-Thomas another go in Rochester but he didn't play too much there anyway so I guess it's fine |

1. Sekera is far and away my top choice out of the FA D-men
(imho we desperately NEED some offense on the back end)
2. GMTM should front load ROR's new deal and pay him a ton now while we still have the room... something obnoxious like 7yrs/$56m ($8mil/yr average)
$12mil , $10mil , $9mil , $7mil , $7mil , $6mil , $5mil
or in that general ballpark
I'd much rather not go above $7mil a yr but if he's demanding more....
makes his contract much more manageable when we have to start paying our young gunzz, or worst case ontario need to trade him bc he's a bum :/

But that's because they've got something to offer long term. Murray could go out and look for Gorges 2.0 but what does that really do for us. I'd rather he swung big and missed than lay down a bunt. If he comes up empty he's still got free agency as an option for a short term fix. |
