upgrade over Gorges in the bottom pairing but doesn't really address our need in the top 4. - Sabresfan-365
Wow... Gorges has been a top 4 DMan his entire career and comes here and has a so-so year then blows up his knee and now so many people want him gone or call him a bottom pairing guy. Just... wow.

I'm hearing a guy to keep an eye on for Sabres defensive depth is Matt Hunwick - JVince11
3rd pairing I would bet. Allows McCabe to start in Rochester.
Hunwick was making $600,000 so he's as cheap as they come. Just 30 years old. I wouldn't hate it.

He was a bottom pairing guy in mtl as well, not the same player he was a few years ago. He's a decent bottom pairing guy now but in a cap world you'd rather not pay your 5/6 d-men around 4 mil year.

His production is on par with Hossa, and has a good contract... - Stripes77
that is a VERY good comparison for Pommer. Two way player who is good for full length of the ice... can certainly do PP and could do PP time as well. Won't punish you but has no problem going into the corners and doing the dirty work.

Hossa career .901 ppg player and a probable HOFer in this era
Pominville .7699 ppg player and is nowhere near a HOFer in any era

Just saying. - dadeadhead
Hossa has played in 7 of the last 9 or some crazy stat like that and has had a benefit of playing on GREAT teams throughout the last portion of his career. i think that has helped his career stats go up a bit.
Pommer.. not so much. I didn't say they were equal.. just that they were a very good comparison to one another. A poor man's Hossa.

Shipping out Hamilton is a poor way of thinking future. If they're tanking, they're doing it wrong. - nfph
I really think we should offer one of our 4 2nd rounders next year for Ericksson if this is indeed the case. Could be a very nice 2nd line winger who put home some pucks. Health has been an issue recently but a former 70 pt player doesn't grow on trees.
