That's true, and here's an excerpt from an NHL.com Dan Rosen article
"Chiarelli targeted Robin Lehner, who was traded by Ottawa to the Buffalo Sabres on Friday. Chiarelli turned his attention to Talbot on Saturday because he was impressed by his performance this season when Henrik Lundqvist was injured."
So maybe we had to give up our first to get him - mattmoulson
TM didn't name the team (maybe he didn't know) but he said as much after the trade. He offered 31 and Ottawa came back later and said somebody trumped his offer. Another report said that Edmonton lost because they wouldn't take Legwand. |

So, no one claimed Hodgson. How much and how many years are we stuck? - sippyd
~$700K for 8 years.... I think it is 1/3 of the remaining salary over 2X length of contract cause he is under 26 |

He is making $791,000 to not play hockey for the Buffalo Sabres...that's nothing compared to what the Leafs and Hurricanes are paying Semin... |

I'm really confused by this. Yeah Lehner got hot and won a Calder Cup but Jones' AHL stats are ridiculously good. They are both crap shoots but Lehner is more valuable with his age/contract status. - buffalokb
Markstrom has amazing AHL stats too and look at his NHL ones.
We can pick stats back and forth all day but overall... I am pretty optimistic about our young goalie who fits TM's requirements and has time on his contract to mold with our corps and forwards. I think we are in a good spot.
Back up goalie is another thing though. I DO NOT like Chad Johnson as a full-time back up. |

I added the cap hit's.
In year 4 we actually get a credit of 458,334.
The avg cap hit over the next 4 years is 291,666. |

Still, Darcy did some dumb things. Leino contract, Hodgson contract, Gerbe buyout. Not that I'm a Gerbe fan, but that whole buyout made no sense.

How on Earth did you forget his BIGGEST blunder...
Matching EDM's offer sheet on Vanek...
just to salt the wound more:
Rivet trade...
Tropp trade... |

12 minutes and not one post...sad people
The offer sheet route is one that gets me thinking...
Does he or doesn't he.
There is still work to be done like you said.
Tomorrow should be interesting. - Stripes77
I doubt we do a significant offer sheet
As promising as Lehner is, he had a poor season last year & there's a question as to what his level of play will be this year
Too risky to give up our 1st
Murray has said good things about Foligno in the past, but I wouldn't be surprised if he is moved with a pick &/or prospect to get back a defenseman to pair with Ristolainen
Shattenkirk? Idk if he's really available. And he had issues at times last year.
Sekera could make an interesting UFA target
Better age than guys like Oduya & Martin
And has really become a pretty nice player
Although all 3 of those guys are 2nd pair
Sounds like we could buy VERY cheap on Phaneuf, but idk if he's a 1st pair guy... An that contract is brutal
Defense is a BIG ? Right now for us

Not fan of Darcy, but he was a good seller when it came to trading. Horrible buyer as you mentioned. Awful at cap management! When he finally got some money to spend he couldn't control himself. |

The only pick Edm had that was better than 31 was 16...
So I'm not sure how they'd have trumped us
Not taking back Legwand seems more reasonable
Or it was another team |

Nothing wrong with the Rivet trade. Last I checked Tropp was still a fringe NHL player. |

a) After what had just happened they had no choice but to match.
b) Do you really think Edmonton drafts RNH, Hall, and MPS if Vanek is there?
c) Did you know the only reason LA was at 12 when we swapped picks to take Myers was because that was the pick Anaheim got for the Penner offer sheet that they traded to LA?
d) Why does this need to be gone over again? |

Chicago and Columbus are working in a trade involving Brandon Saad. More to come.
I love CLB's moves over the past few years. |

Lehner has proven to be a good enough goalie in this league to win a Calder... Jones is no where near that in his career 34 career games played and 16 wins. - JVince11
He won the Calder cup with Binghamton. He also won MVP of the playoffs that year for bingo.
And his wife is insanely hot. |

Because he's a fringe 3rd line guy that they didn't want nor need.
He's putting up 30 points in a top 6 role in Carolina.
He's part of the problem with that team. |

Kerby Rychel to Chicago in the deal is my bet.
Better trade for Chicago if he is IMO. |

I wouldn't say that at all
He went after the top guys with the $$$ he had to spend...
Richards, Suter, Parise...
They just weren't interested in coming here
How he reacted to missing out on them were his biggest mistakes
Leino, & keeping Grigorenko here
Obv big blunders, IMO bc he got desperate |
