And with the first selection in the 2016 draft, the Toronto Maple Leafs choose Auston Matthews.

Going to be a looooong season. I'd still like to see Bozak gone and signing Arco maybe was their insurance plan at center. In which case I could see Hyman on the team

trade Bozak ans swap in Arcobello

I agree. I think we have a 1 - 2 of Kadri Holland.

And IMO Holland deserves that shot.

- Bigzby

I hope that's the way it shakes out. Arcobello as 3rd line.

They wont have Leivo playing 4th line minutes.

Winnik Spaling Komarov - makes sense as our 3rd line.

Other lines have no clue, I guess it depends on the purge.

Parenteau, Marincin, Hunwick - the analytics guys are helping inch the Leafs forward with low risk moneypuck moves.

"Tell you what fancy-stats guys. Here's $5.0M, go see what you can do." - Shanny. Parenteau+Marincin+Hunwick+Arcobello. Nice.

Of all the teams that have made hockey analytics hirings in the past year, it certainly seems like Toronto's have the most influence.

meh, I think the fans will give Kadri another shot...it will depend on his play I think.

Phaneuf will always be on the top of the list while he's here IMO

- Garnie

Kadri might not even report to camp.

Just realized Horton is our highest paid forward now
It would have been Clarkson otherwise

I'm not going to bet you....but if the Leafs plan on using the Detroit method, he won't be on the Leafs this season. ( just my opinion )
- Garnie

I understand what you are saying - only thing is that the last time the Red Wings drafted top 10 in a draft was 1991 (Martin Lapointe, #10).
I don't agree the Red Wings model was a 'choice' - it was basically their only option (players drafted later normally take longer to develop to be ready).

Lapointe's first full nhl season was in 1993-1994 as well; 2 years after drafted..

Datsyuk? drafted in 98, first season 2001-2002 (3 seasons after drafted).
Zetterberg? drafted in 99, first season 2002-2003 (3 seasons as well).

Not sure whether their contracts with European teams were the issue for them not making the team earlier either.

In addition to this, with league changing from more physical to more skill, it's easier for younger guys to make NHL at 19/20y.

The Leafs COULD kinda be like Ottawa and play better than expected. No playoffs but better than we all expect. Who knows?

Why not. It's not like the 4th line will be utilized the same as it was under Carlyle playing only 5 minutes a night. If it's all about development then you roll 4 lines a night and then if guys are having a good game reward them with more ice time.

Parenteau is (frank)ing brutal. No matter what the analytics say about him.

He's very good in the shootout, though.

Let's hope the GM is just like Beane so when a guy doesn't put the effort in and dances on a table he trades him right away.
