Anyone asking about Spaling...he is a guy you won't notice..one way or another. Won't kill you, but won't really help either. I think the biggest complaint you will hear from Pens fans about him, was his cap hit. Probably didn't help he played with really bad wingers too. I liked Spaling, solid player...just not at his cap hit. |

I would've waited a year or two. He's not keeping them out of the basement so I don't see what the rush was.
Oh well. - daeth
That would only be prolonging the agony...and that's 2-3 less years of development in the new culture of the Babcock era. You guys accomplished in 1 summer what the Oilers took 3-4 yrs to do. You're well on your way. |

If the retained salary stays off the cap, then I could care less what they retain. But if this money stays on the cap, which to my knowledge it does, this deal hampers the leafs ability to be competitive down the line. 1.2 million isn't much, but if you are taking an 8 year hit of anything I would expect a better return |

Actually, I think the people saying this is an awful deal are totally willing to be patient. There's nothing patient about this deal. It was a rush job. - Jeffmt
That's my feeling-I don't mind tearing it to the ground. Its that other thing the leafs seem to do a bad job at: asset management. I don't know much about Kapanen other than he's a late first. He may be a great prospect for all I know, but all along I was hoping Pittsburgh wasn't the team because I didn't think their assets were good enough to get back. Hope I'm wrong. |

Kapanen and Harrington are good prospects. And a first. Add Spaling. That's not far off what everyone was expecting was it? - iTOLDu
Sounds like some of the people on here can only gauge a trade from trading roster players so other than those people. Yes that's what we were expecting and I'm very happy that it's done.
Let kessel be someone else's headache. I'm going to tell you right now. Cheeseburgers and big macs start to slow you down significantly after you hit 30. Trust me, I speak from experience. |

I don't love it, I don't hate it, just kinda meh on it. But I'm a Leafs fan: I should lead with "meh" when it comes to anything we do.

He is right that all the details aren't published yet so let's wait and suspend judgement. However, when it was first announced, it sounded like a bad deal for the Leafs. Just sayin. |

So much less than everyone here expected... that's called reality! - fidopro
Kapanen had 5 points(3 goals) in 7 playoff games as an 18 year old. He dropped to 22 in last year's draft because he had injuries and as a result bad year. He had top ten talent and was rated as the top international skater entering the draft. We al got a 1st and 2nd round pick and Harrington is a defensive defenseman who usually take longer to develop so he may work out too...
I say a good trade

They want the fans to accept a long rebuild but they're not willing to wait two months to get a better deal for Phil. Hmmm... - Jeffmt
2 months...where would he be traded in 2 mths?
Pitts doesn't get Kessel today them move on and spend the money some where else, as does the other teams hoping to win the Stanley Cup this year. IMO |
