D+ Trade... Kapanen is not some elite prospect like many trying to make him out to be.. Harrington is meh, but to retain salary is just plain stupid.
Leafs should have traded Bozak first and hoped Kessel added some more teams to his trade list.
In good shape for a top 3 pick though - orienbrady22
Definitely a mediocre return.
They're getting a fantastic pick next year though. This team is awful. |

My only problem with the deal is the 1.2 cap hit we eat for 8 years. - systemtool
I hear you, but it has zero significance for the next 3 or so years while the Leafs expect to be in the cellar.
It starts to matter a bit more as the prospects need raises and they want to start acquiring high end UFAs. But by that time the cap SHOULD be raised enough to make that insignificant.
I understand what you're saying though. No matter how you slice it the Leafs' cap is now 1.2 million less than every other team's cap for the next 7 years. But that just means the front office has to do a a better job of finding good value players and developing their prospects so that they can get some guys contributing on ELC's
All in all, the Leafs, for what they want to accomplish, in my opinion are better off now than they were 1 hour ago. |

Right now he's busy calling around to see if any of the other guys have a spare room open. Maybe Parenteau wants to get a place together. - Jeffmt
Remember that scene in Ace Ventura where he's curled up crying in the shower?
That's Bozak right now. |

kessel deal...
they got a couple mid-round 1sts while retaining salary for a top 5 goal scorer in the nhl the past 5 years...
absolute joke.
i guess his puck possession stats weren't up to snuff. - Pen15
Have you watched him play?
top 5 goal scorer
top 5 in the minus department as well
only player in the NHL to register ZERO hits for a full season

It remains to be seen. I strongly disagree about cap eating big being insignificant. People always assume cap space = the next future awesome.contract cheap player, but it usually just means swapping a Komi for a Clarkson. |

It was too much about Phil.. (frank) that - move on and build a team. |

Agreed . more about moving him then getting max value. - PatC80
Agreed..
That said that was max value...The leafs got want the pens where willing to give up...
That was Phill's value.. |

What did you think we were going to get for Kessel? How does roster players help a rebuilding team? We got 2 solid prospects and a 1st rounder and a 3rd rounder. The best part? We broke free of a player who could potentially turn into the next Dany Heatley with his cheeseburger eating ways.
Being fat may fly at 27 years of age but it won't after he turns 30. - Smitty98
spin it however you want bud...we didn't get fair value for him.
for (frank) sakes...Pitt didn't even give up one of their top prospects...kessel is worth AT LEAST that much.
and don't play off kapanen as a top prospect...he's not. and the 1st in 2016 will very likely be 20+. |

So I guess is pretty much convinced the Pens are next year's President's Trophy winners, eh? Makes complete sense. How can they not, especially with Semin in the fold? - Phenom

I don't understand what's wrong with a bit of ribbing. As long as it's not personal or vulgar. Why are leaf fans/mods so sensitive? Especially considering leaf fans on here are known to troll other threads.
More bans happen in here than any other thread. Why? - bloatedmosquito
On the contrary, I don't think you have a clue about just how much the leafs threads get trolled.
Dozzer is pretty patient. I got a 3-year ban for WAY less than what I see in Leafs threads daily. |

We basically got 2 firsts and a 2nd. I don't like the retention but its a good trade. Kapanen is a real nice piece. |
|
|
|
Any report on which 2nd it is. If it's the leafs the 1st and that second could be within 5 picks of each other. Pretty much a wash. |

How in the (frank) so? Kessel tearing it up with Crosby it'll probably be 24th overall again... in which we will pull another non-koneckny and trade the (frank) right out of the first round.
(frank) this management. - Tee-Dot
yup, he'll score at least 40 with Sid, it'll be a poopty pick that they will trade for a bunch of gems in the 60's.... |

If Kessel retires at 32 years of age cause he gets tired of hauling his kim kardashian cheeseburger ass around the ice, does his 1.25 mill still get retained for the full 8 years? |

Not having one pre-draft was not a good move. Having a 28 year old junior GM (for only a short time) is not the recipe for success... - aminnes
Leafs have a solid management team in place and are proceeding with the full rebuild that Shanny brought to the board. This is a good deal that helps advance that rebuild. We weren't getting Maata or whatever baby Jesus everyone has been wetting their pants over. There simply weren't a long list of trading partners out there |
