IMO when i first read about the trade and the return we got from oshie not sure I was too thrilled about it. But i honestly think that brouwer could play on the 2nd line. He has scored over 20 goals in the last 3 seasons. big body, great in front of the net. I saw something that 20 of his 23 goals last season were on the pp.
That is huge for us, Also said it is a huge upgrade on the penatly kill rather than OSHIE. So Im not happy about it, not mad about it I think im ok tho. - truthBtold
I don't think he should play on the second line. He can, and probably will a lot, but that doesn't mean he's the best fit. He generally tanks his line's possession a little bit. |

If Backes is on the opening night roster, he will still be playing center though hopefully on the third line. S--t can Berglund and insert Fabbri.
Given the nature of this move, I have to think that after the season Hitch and Armstrong both agreed that Oshie had to go regardless. I never expected the return to be that great considering he's basically a shoot out specialist and is not clutch in any way, shape, or form.
Bet he'll have so much fun playing for Trotz. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. - fattyboubatty
Agree with this and Carcus' assessment on Osh. Blues fans are overvaluing him and undervaluing Brouwer. Blues made a good deal here.
With the new OT rule, Oshie's value is even less.
He's never been the player he was at ND, and he's never been the player he was before the ankle injury. |

He cannot. Unless his skating improved he has slowed down over the years. |

How can anyone think with the new OT rule Oshie's value goes down? He is the kind of player who would thrive with that much open ice. You have seen him over the years beat three and four players on the ice by himself plenty of times.
To me the deal hinges on the goaltender. He had one good season in back up minutes. You look at his other seasons before then and they are underwhelming. Not to say he has not started to figure it out.
It is basically a get rid of Oshie get a player of near value for a year some mild prospects while clearing up space beyond this year and developing players in the mean time.
The problem is the Blues talked about getting faster. |

I am not disappointed with the Oshie trade.
I think those that are overvalued Oshie. I think it is a step in the right direction just getting rid of him honestly. Brouwer will be a good addition to our 3rd line and the goalie had a good year in the AHL last year and looks promising.
And just because am UFA signs somewhere for a deal you think the Blues should have made doesn't mean they wanted to/were willing to sign the same deal here. Players can demand different contracts depending on the playing situation/city/etc. It's easy to say we should have signed Williams to that deal, but he might not have wanted to sign the same deal here, if at all.
Have a great 4th jammer. - carcus
Carcus, I know what you are saying about UFAs (see Jack McKee overpay and Dom Hasek not coming to St Louis back in the day as examples). The player has the choice but Army has the job responsibility in selling and wooing the player on the team. He also has responsibility for the coaching staff. Like it or not, him landing the free agents or not is part of his job evaluation.
Sounds like Williams' kid wanted him to go to Washington if he didn't sign in LA. Who knows how much impact that did or didn't have...
My bigger issue with the problem with the trade is it seems like rearranging the desk chairs. I'd rather have done a deal for much better picks or much better prospects. We traded a 2nd/3rd line 20 goals scoring forward for another. Brouwer may hit a little more than oshie, maybe not. He definitely is worse in the shootout. I just can't see this as a difference maker type move. I hope I am wrong. |

Agreed with the bold especially and much of the rest though Binnington and Allen should be able to hold down the net for a while.
Are the Wolves letting Climie go? Is this the Blues taking control of the Wolves goalie situation? could be I guess. |

He TRIES to beat three or four players with puck dangling but usually turns it over and falls down.
For all the cutsie little things he can do with the puck, he doesn't turn enough of those moves into points.
He's gone and I'm ok with it.

Here's how i see this trade, and the signing of brodziak:
Positives:
Our identity as a team will be different. Brouwer is an absolute dog who brings everything every night. Brodziak is an annoying pest, much like sobotka.
These acquisitions should help the blues become a more aggressive team, who takes its game TO the other team, instead of sitting on its heels like we're used to.
Negatives:
1)We still haven't acquired any more speed, like we said we'd need to to compete in today's league.
2) Oshie will thrive in Washington, probably play with ovechkin and backstrom, and we'll never hear the end of how dumb we were for trading him. (even though he needed to go) |

Perhaps, but before we reach that point we'll hear "Does he always just fall over like that for no reason?"

He will be a liability in 3-on-3. Anyone who falls down that much can't possibly be allowed on the ice when a mistake like that leads to an odd man rush. |

It all comes down to his playoff stats. To have a guy drop off that badly, and on top of that to not take responsibility and place the blame elsewhere.... Sayonara Oshie.
He's one of those guys that just wants to play hockey and cash checks. He should help the Cap's in the reg season but beyond that I wouldn't place any bets. |

Exactly. A few years ago I liked troy, now he is slow and his possession stats are way down. before he once had identical numbers to backes.
oshie disappeared in the play offs to be sure. but his contract of the three held the best value. steen and backes also disappear, more so steen and he gets paid like a champ.
better to have gotten picks and prospects and went skinny dipping in the fa pool for someone like stafford. he has the speed and ability especially after he left buffalo. imo there were better options to be had.
three on three oshie is a big time threat and oshie was a good pk and pp guy. much more creative than a number of players. that older core is a mystery in the second season.
jammer is correct, rearranging the deck chairs. |

True but Oshie was an alternate captain. You cant have a guy in such a prominent role drop off so badly and have it be ok. Brouwer's not going to be getting all those minutes either, so will Fabbri most likely.
It would have been great to get the package Chi got for Saad but Oshie is not the player Saad is, not to mention quite a bit older. |

Anyone else like the idea of 1 year show me deal for Semin? Should be cheaper and gives him a chance to rebuild his value. Maybe playing with Tarasenko would be a draw for him. |
