Roster limits and the salary cap. 13 forwards on one way deals, including Vinny(NMC means no AHL) and Umberger who likely can't be traded, anyhow. Then at least 7 D on one way contracts and two goalies. There's only one spot at most for a kid to step in without another trade - Jsaquella
But didn't you hear? Everything you posted is meaningless. Players can just be traded or demoted to make room. Have you had your head in the ground for the last yr? |

The Flyers wouldn't have much an issue trading Luke Schenn, Nick Schultz, or Radko Gudas during training camp, if they felt they need to make some roster spots for any of the young defenseman to make the team. In fact, Gudas deal is cheap enough that they could waive him, and if he clears, demote him to the AHL, to create a roster spot, without having to carry much on the cap for him.

If Letang stays healthy, at one point, Malkin at the other.
Syd on 1/2 wall, cheeseburger Phil in the slot, & Hornqvist screening ala Tomas Holmstrom.
Pretty for you guys, scary for everyone else - puckhead17
letang is actually pretty bad at the point of a powerplay. he has tons of flash, but he doesnt think the game well from a set play standpoint.
im really hoping pouliot can be that guy.
hornqvist being a holmstrom esque net front guy would be awesome. i might swap personnel around a bit, but thats the set up id go with too |

What position would a fan want their team in, out of the following two scenarios? The team has to trade decent defenseman on low term, and/or low money deals to make roster room for young prospect defenseman? Or the team that has to scramble out of training camp to add defenseman to their roster, because the young defenseman they were counting on, showed that they aren't ready, and need more seasoning in the minors? |

I'd prefer a team that hopes thier young players can crack the roster, but has 1-2 serviceable 7/8 man (Manning, for instance) who could play low yet meaningful minutes in the top 6 should the need arise while the young guys work on their game.
But I guess that doesn't really answer your question. So neither. |

He was the one I was hoping to see go in the Kessel deal. C'mon Shanahan |

They're still conversing, and can come to terms even before the process.
Amazing no one wants him, I thought he was our best defenseman in the 2nd half of the season. |

I'm sure there are teams that are interested, but not at the compensation cost in the $3-5M range.

Seriously theres a lot of clean ones around the league right now. Maybe a team retaining 1 mil here or there. My God we have serious value issues on these deals |

I don't know.
He played PP, & PK, sometimes lead us in minutes, played more physical when he had to, & jumped into the offensive zone, creating an offensive element that we lacked in our attack.
What's a 24 year old, former first rounder with these qualities worth? |

4 D men on ELCs coming over the next two years should take care of that. |

Scott Burnside, presumably of ESPN, rated us 27th in the league heading into next year.

Sounds about right. I'd say 20-26. |

Its a dirty job but someone had to do it for the flyers last year. |

Assuming MDZ gets done I would love Streit moved if possible before the season starts - perhaps for just picks or picks + utility forwards. |

The Flyers have that, they have Manning, if he's needed. Along with other serviceable defenseman. |

Teams who have cap space and aren't going to use it, no thanks. Don't want the Flyers to be one of those teams. What does that do for you? Flyers have to figure out the Lecavalier issue. Hopefully Umberger gets healthy and rebounds. Really the only cap issues the Flyers have, and they'll eventually get taken care of. Not really a big deal. |

The reality with Del Zotto is that other than his ability to jump in on the rush, he's considered an average to below average defenseman around the league. |
