There is definitely a market for Luke. Hextall has been very good at keeping things within. I wouldn't be suprised to hear a trade come out of the blue which includes big BAD Luke - 3flyerkids
Yup, my thought exactly

Yeah it is. Wish he'd take MSL's lead and just retire. - BiggE
It's really a worn out subject, but every time I look at our Cap $, I get disgusted.
I can't see this guy getting scratched every night, for the next 3 seasons.
I know his buyout would be much more manageable next year, (especially the year after), but it really does stink.
The guy has plenty of money, & they've told him flat out he does not fit here anymore.
I'm starting to think he would have more pride retiring, instead of accepting the press box, and being a financial albatross. He was a much better player than this. |

It won't last for 3 seasons. My guess is, if they can't move him before, that he either retires, terminates or is bought out after the upcoming season. |

When camp opens, and some teams start getting hit with blue line injuries, Hextall may be able deal more from a strength then. |

Ridiculous, I know he has a ton of pride, but come on.
He has all that $ from Tampa, and faces the probability of being scratched every night, completely knowing he does not have fit on this team.
I understand he didn't have a gun to Homer's head when he signed it, but does he really see this situation getting any better?
Not just for a year, but 3 more no less. - puckhead17
You would think he would terminate out of pride and move on. Unless of course he knows the prospects of hooking on anywhere else are zero to none. |

Yeah, Holmgren's parting gifts.
- BiggE
Hypothetically, if they weren't on the roster the possibilities would have been tremendous.
How would the Flyers roster look with VLC, Umberger, MacDonald out, and some form of Sekera/Martin, Sharp, J-Will, Oshie in. Team would really be in business.
That said, Hextall had a solid draft by all accounts, did great getting an asset for a waste of oxygen, and added a capable backup G. I think Gagner might surprise too. Maybe he scores 45 points. |

No it won't be 3 years, but if he came to this realization now, instead of 2 years from now, we would be able to do something with the extra space.
Having MDZ waiting to be signed, and Vinny not leaving really messes things up, but again, it's early. |

I think Corpseburger is bought out in his last year ( well I hope )
Let's pray Vinny does have some pride and makes the correct decision. I did say PRAY

Exactly!
If this was about pride, then why would he want to be remembered this way?
Not to say it takes away what he's accomplished, but when they told Hartnell he was no longer wanted, that's all it took, he wanted out.

Yes, completely understandable from our Cap position that he was unable to bid for any UFA's, especially with the fiscal plan he has in place.
Just a bit of a shame he wasn't able to resolve the VL situation earlier, (to have the extra $ cushion available).
I'm sure he'll be able to deal another defenseman down the line, especially if/when, other teams start getting injuries to their D units.
I like Raffl, but just not sure if he can give us the production we need on that side.
Who knows, maybe they try Gagne on the left side, and takes off, the wat Schenn did on the right side? - puckhead17
Let's keep in mind that Hextall has signed 2 free agents this season already. Medvedev, and Neuvirth. |

14+ million tied up on VLC, Umberger, and MacDonald. Not even getting replacement level production from these players. They are consuming about 20% of the cap. Makes it really hard to compete with sunk costs like these guys. - PLindbergh31
Yeah, but we all knew this would be the case. They're not competing for the Cup next season anyway so there's no need to take measures that will hurt the cap situation in the coming years when they will be ready to compete. |

Agreed. With you 100% there. Just is frustrating because Giroux and Voracek prime years on a non contending team is tough to swallow. |

V will be signed.

Yes, they are going to be up near the cap again this year. It's not a big problem. They have the space to re-sign Del Zotto again. |

Because Hartnell is marketable, yeah I know.
But when he was told they didn't want him, he accepted it, even though he had tradeable options.
But VL sits out every night, & won't retire because of pride. |

Don't waste your time man. The Flyers signed a russian dman, and a third goalie. Just trying to fit in his Flyers cap issues are "overblown hyperbole" narrative. |

Agreed, if you don't need the space to do anything right now, let it play out and see what happens. The Flyers are in decent cap shape right now. |

I agree with you on how it sucks that we're wasting a few more years of Giroux's, & Voracek's prime years.
As well as Simmonds.
I know, we have a plan, patience. |

Also because while agreeing to leave he would still be paid his full contract.
VL may not be retiring or agreeing to mutually terminate because he doesn't want to leave millions of dollars on the table. He's only 35 years old with plenty of years in front of him so he does have to think about his future. So it might not be pride, it might be sound financial reasons why he is doing what he is doing. |
