Want to lay odds on the same source later on this season, saying what a great signing Medvedev was by Hextall? Also how much better of a backup Neuvirth is, who is what I meant to post, over Emery? - MJL

He still feels he can play. - puckhead17
Which is fine but there is a depth chart here and he is nowhere close to getting into the lineup. The team has 4 Centers and Laughton on top of that. We're stacked at RW as well.
He should think he can still play...somewhere else. But he needs to realize it isn't happening with that contract. He's just wasting his own time tbh. |

With the right mix of players he could get back to 20g/50pts. - Pixote Andolini
Dunno... problem with him is he can't seem to get the same # of shots off that he did during that brief time he was a 50pt player... his SH% has been pretty constant, even last season wasn't bad (9-10%). He'd need to get off 200-250 shots to be able to get in the 40-50pt range (or over 3 per game)... in Columbus he declined to just 2 per game, and last season he barely got up to 1.5. |

Honestly, if Umberger gave them 70 games, 15 goals and 30-35 points, I'd be pleasantly surprised. |

That's a lot of ice time to get that number of shots. |

Who is going to pay him anything more than say $2M on a one-year deal, where he may end up in the press box anyway? My opinion is nobody. So why should he give up millions to maybe sit somewhere else when he can bide his time here?
I think the reality is that he'll be on the roster again this year.
It's a long season, injuries happen, slumps happen, he could get some ice time. For example, maybe the PP goes into the crapper so they're looking for a change. Send VL out there on the second unit to snipe from the dots. |

Yeah, icetime, linemates AND being able to beat defenders for looks. I don't see it happening.
Like BiggE said, if he can get 30pts, 10+G in a bottom-six role, like his last season in 'lumbus, that would have to be considered a success. |

True, but someone may offer him 1 million with incentives. It really comes down to what is more important to him: squeezing out every last $$ possible or getting a chance to play every night.

Don't waste your time man. The Flyers signed a russian dman, and a third goalie. Just trying to fit in his Flyers cap issues are "overblown hyperbole" narrative. - PLindbergh31
Listening to the NHL network on XM, they explain there are teams that are budget teams and teams that are cap teams. The flyers are a cap team, who will always be right at the cap limit. You can argue they could have better players for the money they spend, but they will never be a team that has a large amount of extra cap space sotting around. |

As well as helping the PK, he can contribute in other areas.
Even though he may have lost a step, he still has his wheels, to some degree. |

No doubt, and I'm fine with that philosophy. However, no matter how anyone spins it, there is nothing good about having 14.1 million cap dollars tied up in Vinny, Umberger and AMac.

After his back and hernia issues, who can really say how well he can still skate. We'll see in September.

I actually don't view AMac the same way, he's overpaid, but is a very serviceable defenseman. (Again, albeit overpaid).
Umberger may still be able to contribute, in other areas.

15 goals on the 3rd line for Umberger and he'll be a success this coming season. I think if he's healthy its possible.....not worth 4.6 in cap but at least he'll be a good 3rd liner. Our 3rd line was dreadful last season. |

His injury situation will definitely depend on how he can contribute, but if he's healthy he may be serviceable. Still being able to skate in today's game is a factor. |

It is definitely a factor and is also one of the reasons I cant see Couturier ever becoming the offensive player people are hoping for......he is just about as slow as Vinny.. |

Yeah I'm well aware of that. My issue isn't with the Flyers spending money. Why would it be? It's spending boatloads of cash on marginal players is what the problem is. |

Which isnt saying much....I mean when I put together the Flyers top 6 d-man rotation in my head....I leave Amac off the list.....I would like to see this if we cant acquire anyone else this summer.

Agreed. I think Hextall will manage the cap better. Though they will still be at the cap ceiling. Just better usage of the money. |

Can't really slot Provorov in until you see how he looks against NHL competition. For he or Sanheim to make the roster, they are going to have to significantly outplay the vets. Same goes for Ghost and Morin and any of the other kids.
