Yes, that's what I understand. Just a note, players on LTIR count against the cap also. - MJL
Right but there are exceptions/allowances if you need to do so |

Pretty much. He'll be ok if you need him for like 2 or 3 games after that you start to see why he has spent most of his career in the minors |

Well, I've heard they low balled him twice, then made the offer of $5.5mm, which he rejected. Still made a bad value trade. Even if he signed an offer sheet, match it and trade him in a year. - Jsaquella
Yeah, even if they were given an offer sheet they didn't want to match, they have 7 days to sit on it.
And traded Lucic right after, (that created space).
Seems like the Bruins have always been that way, if a player backs them up they stick out their Chest, & could care less where an asset is going. |

One goal of Hextall's has been to make the AHL team better, kind of ingrain the idea of being a winner from the ground up. It seems like the Flyers will use the AHL team more as a developmental tool than they did in the past, when it was filled with fringe prospects, random AHL vets and undrafted FAs from NCAA or CHL.
Scott Laughton is the first Flyers 1st rounder that I can recall spending significant time in the AHL since Steve Downie(in a non lockout season, anyhow) |

I just view it like this, there are some players you can afford to trade low on. Maybe injury, or contract issues or whatever with a veteran, or a situation like Toronto with Kessel.
But a 22 year old, who is already playing as a first pair defenseman in the NHL and doing well? If you trade that guy, you need to get full value or you can't trade him, and go out and find a way to make it work |

This makes me curious as to why they let Andrew Gordon go to FA the other day. Kid has lit up the AHL for a while now, but his NHL game is non-existent. I would have thought they'd try to keep him around as a mentor.
He may have wanted to test the waters. Can't blame him, he's 29; there may be an extra $200k on a different team. |

I'm still scrathing my head on the Hamilton trade (1st, 2nd, 2nd) and also on the Oshie trade (Brouwer, 3rd, Copley).
Bos and Stl could have gotten more in return IMO

We are now spoiled expecting daily miracles from Hextall....
Me as well for expecting Vinny to be convinced to on his own or by management to man up and look in the mirror when his amigos start retiring.
Maybe when he is 3 strides behind the play in TC when the youngins blast by him attacking and forechecking.......
edit
and backchecking while he is 2 zones away |

Yeah, my thinking is thst Vinny is guaranteed a full camp here where as he could easily be cut early on a tryout. Might as well take advantage of the situation.

What the hell? If spotrac is right the Preds only have 5 wingers signed.
Maybe they still could use Vinny... |

ok cap "experts", can you trade a player and retain salary but not retain cap space? - nastyflyergirl
Cap and salary have to be retained at the same rate, for every year left on the contract, and 50% is the maximum retention. |

Didnt Brayden "Bust" Schenn only have like 5P less than these guys last year not playing with guys called Landeskog, MacKinnon, Duchene, Toews, Kane, Hossa? |

5 starting QB's injured in the first 2 weeks. Thats gotta be a record. Wait 6 including Lulay.
Luckily we have by far the best backup QB in the league or it would've been hello 3-13 |

Escrow comes out of salary, not bonuses. Also, in case of lockout, his bonus will have already been paid, on July 1st of the year |

Bombers cant defend for poop for last couple years, even if things are a bit better under new management.
I see another Cats vs Stamps final. Glenn is all class. |
