There's a couple of very interesting scenarios that will undoubtedly play out this summer. What will the Rangers do with Derek Stepan? If they sign him to a big contract (6M) it puts the squeeze on their cap situation. Does that mean Keith Yandle gets moved and could the Sabres get involved?

Another is Chicago. Do they move Sharp or Bickell so they will have some wiggle room to re-sign Johnny Oduya. If not, do the Sabres get involved?

Thirdly, Philadelphia. They have 7 d men signed for next season and Michael Del Zotto would make 8, when he's re-signed. Do the Flyers want 8 dmen on their roster with not a lot of cap space to begin with? He has elected salary arbitration. That could be a sticky wicket. Do the Sabres get involved?

i hope they get involved someway. We need to add another dman and not just for depth. Another player on the rangers to target could be staal.

Strong finish probably means he won't come cheap. At that cap hit you can bet a lot of contending teams pressed up against the cap will be calling.

Long term they're probably our most realistic option. If a 24 year old left handed defencemen was available i think they would have done it by now.
