So let me get this straight. Some team is going to trade for Brandon Sutter with one year remaining on his contract when they could just go out and sign Fehr or Matthias (who, according to this board are better players) while giving up nothing?
- hardnosed

I mean it all relies on a team overvaluing Sutter. For whatever reason Fehr is super underated and never gets attention so he may be off a lot of team's radars especially if a GM wants a young player to lock up for his prime. If that's the case then their only current option is to sign Matthias. All it takes is one GM to believe Sutter can be a 2C and not like Matthias' game.

God I so wish we could just somehow get Staal back. Imagine bringing Staal back into the fold to play along side Dupuis and either Bennett, Plotnikov, or Kunitz. Easily the best third line in hockey most likely.

People are stupid... GMs are people... therefore, GMs are stupid.

I think we need to add some size and strength to the team. I'd be lying if I said I'm not worried about some of the bigger teams in the division. Cbus and Wash are going to be very hard on the Pens. I would love Fehr or Matthias between Kuni and Duper. That would be a good possession line that could pot a few.

Well, i think its more because the GMs like sutter for some reason. Might just be the name.

I'm guessing they like Sutter because he's the better, more valuable player.

Which is why I still hold that it's more likely that Sutter gets extended than it is that he gets traded.

I maintain that he gives great blow jobs because throughout his career his GMs have basically gone out of their way to say how great Sutter is. I find that suspicious

I will cry if we give him a 4.5 mil extension. I could stomach him around 3.5 although he would always be my least favorite penguin but at 4.5 id want to jump off a bridge. I'd rather just pay the extra 1.5 for Staal

I honestly think sutter's value rose a little bit after free agency. Anisimov and Soderberg are better players, but they got pretty big contracts for 3rd line centers. Sutter at 3.3 to a team who is in desperate need of a center isn't unlikely. It all depends on what JR is willing to give him up for.

I personally think sundqvist could fill in that role if he's given the right help. Put Kunitz and dupuis next to him and you're putting him in a position to succeed. You can always toggle the lines and move Kunitz up and slide Perron or Plotnikov down depending on who meshes better.

I really do not believe Sunq is ready... I don't have the link anymore, but was from our AHL scouts near the end of the season... if you saw it, you might recall it saying to not expect Kap or Sunq to be ready at the start of this upcoming season. Not saying either is a bust or bad, but I for one am over paranoid to rush any of our good prospects after Bennett's mess ups.

Yep. I'll be happy if Sundqvist is good enough to just make the team. The fact that Rutherford is openly saying their next target is a 4th line center, the FO is not expecting that to happen.

If JR or HCMJ wants him to get some NHL experience this year, just for experience sake... fine... have him rotate onto the 4th line center position a bit as our extra man. He will practice with the team, be on the road with us, all that stuff. But I don't want him forced into starting on the 3rd line.

Ah gotcha. I remember in training camp last season he was very close to making the lineup and I've only heard good things while he was in Sweden. Maybe a year in the ahl with the occasional call up would be good for him then

No rumours? It's been pretty quiet. Sutter+prospect for Boedker would be VERY NICE

HIGHLY doubt we can afford him, plus the replacement for Sutter.... would need to dump Scuds (1 mil retained) and Kunitz to take most of Boedker's likely contract (assumed about 5 mil).

He also plays LW. Seeing how he was so close to forcing management to give him a spot last year I can see him playing 4LW this year with the big club while he learns the NHL ropes. He'll be a C in two to three years

I know they are not sexy options but Rust, Wilson, Sheary and Sündqvist should get a look on our bottom lines. We have to trust them. I'm all for it.

Sundqvist is losing a year on his ELC whether he plays for the Pens or not. I think he would have to be extremely underwhelming to not be on the NHL roster by February next season.

The (frank) you talking about Barns? Bryan Rust is damn sexy with that stutter of his
Anyways though, agreed. I want one guy who's a vet on the fourth line but then after that it should just be a revolving door of prospects just to see what we've got. Maybe one or two of them earn permanent spots. I would also like to see Sheary get a look at top 6 for a few games if one of the big guns gets hurt. Unlikely but who knows. Maybe we struck gold with Sheary. He was huge for WBS during the playoffs. I would really be unhappy if we've got the second coming of St. Louis and we never gave him a shot. Like I said, extremely unlikely but you never know

Absolutely. We do need to get bigger on the wings for sure. If we only could've retained Winnik, Downie or Comeau..but those guys got big contracts that we couldn't afford.

Bergenheim, Boyes, Matthias, Santorelli are all out there. I bet we could grab a couple for a reasonable price.

I've always wanted bergenheim on this team but I'll settle for any of those. Plotnikov is big and supposed to be physical. Sucks we have like 2 months before we get to see the team

I wish Rutherford would do something to address forward depth. The moves are there to make and can actually save the team money while creating assets. Let's hope he does it.

May be trying to find the right deal for a guy like sutter. It's difficult because if you trade him before you land a guy like fehr it's trouble and if you signed fehr first then you decrease your trade value and you really haven't added to depth unless you save money to sign someone else. I think they intend at looking at some Wb guys for the 4th line which I'm happy about
