Whoa, what's with the casual Colorado bashing in this blog. That's a lot of confidence to call Roy the worst coach in the league, 1 year removed from winning the Jack Adams. And the Avalanche are the worst run team in hockey, nvm they won the hardest division in the NHL.
This contract for Ryan is absolutely fair, he is a gem of a player. But it is not an unrestricted signing. Buffalo traded quality assets for him, and while losing ROR sucks the Avs gained in return salary cap flexibility for their future and restocked their prospect pool.

Totally agree, hate to see ROR go but seeing that means COL frees up the cap space to sign Johnson, Barrie and MacKinnon long term I take that trade off every single day. ROR was great for the Avs but he wasn't worth $7.5 mil for a 3rd line center (which is exactly where he would end up when MacKinnon eventually transitions over from the wing). In return we get much needed help on Defense and scoring depth (if Grigorenko settles into an NHL role), while also signing a solid two way center who can fit in with MacKinnon and Landy in the short term on the 2nd line and eventually move to the 3rd line center role when Mac's ready to take over (oh and for a $4.75 mil cap hit not $7.5).
For all the Avs haters, remind me again how we're the worst run franchise with the worst coach in the league who's put up 202 points the past 2 years (112 and 90) winning the best division in the league in his first season? Remind me also when the Oilers have even reached 80 points in a season, that was 2008 right (even with winning the lottery 3 times!!!)? Don't be mad our lottery win actually resulted in a playoff berth... Take a breath and personally I can't wait for Avs season to start!!!!
