I didn't read where StL was offering us Shattenkirk for Simmonds and a package. Why does it seem to be etched in stone in these discussions?
Admittedly, a deal for Shattenkirk would most likely take a bite out of our future, and we do have a health supply of young D in the pipeline, but I'd still kick the tires to see what I'd have to offer to grab someone like him.
As it stands, all we have are D prospects, nothing more. If I'm able to open a dialogue for a proven player like him, I'm all for it. - 77rams
Not really. You give up Simmonds who I like but is inconsistent 5 on 5. Ghost who is a prospect that may or may not pan out. Suppose to only be a top 4 guy anyways and with plenty of D prospects and a first round pick that I dont believe would be an early pick for a Top pair Dman who is only 26.
We have a good crop of D and not all of them are going to pan out and ghost already had a pretty big set back. Simmonds I am sure we can replace at some point, maybe you can swap Simmonds in the deal with B.Schenn and 1st. Shattenkirk is the kind of guy to build the D around. A top pairing guy for the youngsters to look up to and anchor that 1st pair. In reality Ghost is likely going to be just like MDZ. A solid top 4 guy. |

oh look a mid 20's number 1 possibly available for trade. But they're never available - JoeRussomanno
I don't consider Shattenkirk a #1 defenseman, and I'll believe he's available when he's actually traded.

Simmonds hasn't had the benefit of playing with a top playmaker on his line on a regular basis. I'd be willing to bet, with the right line mates to compliment him, Simmonds would be a consistent 5 on 5 player.

(frank)ing christ, can we give the kid some time to play before we start making judgements and sarcastic, holier than thou comments on his future......let me ask you a question, since hes the guy you randomly picked as the "one who wont make it from the group", how many times have you actually seen him play? - KINGKENZO
How do u come to the conclusion that I randomly picked him?
I threw a dart and hit his name. Almost hit gus; had to double check |

any news on gustafsson? last i read he wanted to return to the nhl and the flyers still held his rights; they also seemed to have little interest in bringing him back with the proverbial defensive logjam the team has. - hogweed
They have not found another NHL team with interest in signing him to type of deal (one-way, worth more than he could make in Europe) he hoped to get. Last I heard, there was interest from Swiss team. |

Should be interesting. Sam Thompson left for the Twolves. No idea why. Looking forward to seeing Okafor, Mcconnell and Holmes among others. |

I don't see ghost becoming a steady nhl player . Def not a top 4. Hope I am wrong time will tell.
Not all will pan out and he will be the bust.
Why not just say what we all know? Go ahead, say it. Say the words: "i have no (frank)ing clue what im talking about, and I just pulled it from my ass" |

But but the flyers are hosing him. He never got a real chance . Just like manning . Gus is an nhl top 6 player .. Yes that is sarcasm |

How is it first of all wrong for someone to feel a young player might not pan out and how is this random? I'm not saying Ghost won't pan out but what if he doesn't? He's known to be so far as being small and offensive. Sure he could develop but your argument seems to be of the direction of let's wait and see but I'm gonna argue with you in the mean time, even though none of us have anyway of knowing how good an NHLer he'll end up being. I think it's possible Morin might not be everything we all were hoping he'd be. Our expectations are high for all these kids. |

exactly.....btw, im not arguing. im simply expressing my distain for definitive declarations based on nothing. he may be a bust, he may not be. nobody knows at this point because he hasnt played enough to make that judgement. |

I just discovered based on their weights on NHL.com that Provorov is the same height and only three pounds lighter than Radko Gudas |

Exactly, nobody has said that Gostisbehere is can't miss, and that the possibility of him not making it as an NHL player doesn't exist. I think the point is how can that possibly be determined now. If it was possible, I wish someone would let the Flyers in on the secret. |
