I disagree.. He didnt look out of place at all.. He had very bad puck luck, but his motor and positioning were not out of place at all. He had a ton of great chances, but the puck wasnt going home. That happens... For a rookie he look really comfortable, until the head injury. - jak521
I think you gave a perfect evaluation. I thought he showed pretty well up until the injury. He had good speed (something we desperately need), tenacity, his positioning was good, like you said- he wasn't getting any bounces. This is also not to say that he didn't make any mistakes, cuz he did, but that has to be expected from a first year nhl player. And if you expect a 100% perfect game from a young player, you're in for an AWFULLY rude awakening....

It would be fine if Laughton is that guy, but he wasn't ready for that last season. His offensive game isn't there yet. He's strong on his skates, strong on the puck in board battles, and a strong forchcker. His play with the puck needs further development. - MJL
I never said he had zero strengths but there are two sides to the puck in the NHL and he's weak on one of those sides. |

There were a handful of games where he was our most dangerous player, but just couldnt buy a break. Tons of times where he hit the post, or had a goalie make a remarkable save. But he also did have times where he was holding the puck just a bit too long, or looked to pass when he should have just shot, but he was a tertiary contributor as a rookie. That stuff should be expected. The concussion totally took the good stuff away.. and he even struggled in the AHL.

Scott Laughton doesn't need to be that guy. - SuperSchennBros
That's the kind of player he is tho... takes the puck to the high traffic areas, creates chances.
If you don't like him w/ Simmer, then write Hakstol some fan mail. |

You keep bringing up Perfect passes or 100% perfect game when from my standpoint, he never improved with the puck during his time at the NHL level. I saw a who was struggling to create offense or score goals and in doing so at times would try to do everything himself, which showed signs of frustration. Someone on here made a good point by pointing out that after the Niskanen hit, when Laughton was inserted into the line up against Washington, Laughon challenged Niskanen to a fight and got pounded which wasn't smart. I just feel these are all signs of a kid who needs to be more aware of his capabilities and not making decisions based on frustration, emotion or pride. |

He was slow to make decisions with the puck, period. - SuperSchennBros
And I'll say it one more time, being able to make quick, smart, effective decisions with the puck is something that comes with time. Not every prospect is Tavares, Crosby, mcdavid.

I have a hard time levying judgment on a player (kid or vet) that wants to exact some type of revenge for a dirty (or clean) hit. You often hear of vets remembering numbers for months and years to an extent. I'm glad he came back and was willing to hit/get hit. Much more preferable to him shying from contact. Sorry, but it sounds like you're reaching. |

You never want to take that fire or competitveness away from a kid. Challenging Niskanen showed his character and fire. |

You can improve on a shift to shift basis. Laughton is probably the slowest I've seen develop among names like Simon Gagne, Justin Williams, Mike Richards, Jeff Carter, Steve Downie (Yes, Steve Downie), Claude Giroux, James van Riemsdyk, Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier. None of these players began their careers doing what Crosby or Tavares could do. In fact, most of these players (Not all) were better offensively then they were defensively when they came into the league. |
