As a die hard oil fan, I give a sh@t, and mcdavid wasn't the best IMO. McD and nurse are neck and neck. F@$k me oil are in good shape

Wow! The oilers are poised to be a devastating team. I guess when you're the league cellar dweller for a decade the high picks start to add up. To be honest a decade in the can to build for a decade of crushing everyone is a much better plan than the maple leafs 50 year model of sucking just enough to not make the playoffs and not get a high end draft pick. I'm terrified of what the Oilers will be doing in a few short years and I may just jump on the bandwagon if my Penguins go all 2003 again. I can only handle that as a fan once, maybe twice.

with sabres signings our top 9 look pretty good.
top three
Kane Oreilly Ennis
vs Hall Hopkins eberle
This is pretty comparable top three. Hall is by far the best player but the other two players are pretty close to each other. Oreilly better defensively then hopkins but hopkins slight edge offensively. Ennis and Eberle are scratch. Because of hall slight edge goes to oilers.

Moulson Girgensons Reinhart
Pouliot Mcdavid Yakopov

These are tough to compare because this season i would take girgensons over mcDavid. He will put up comparable offensive numbers but will be much better defensively and on faceoffs because he has played in Nhl, has size and was an allstar last year. Yakopov will be better then reinhart for same reasons except reinhart will play defense. So i will give this a draw.

Foligno Eichel Gionta
(not sure what ur third line will be just a guess)
Korpikoski Drasiatl Purcell
based on players i picked this will go to buffalo head to head we would win every matchup.

What do u think of the sabres new top 9 not to bad for last place team the past two years. Playoffs next year?

Defense

Ristolainen Bogasian
Reinhart Sekera

Since Risto vs reinhart goes to risto. He is stud and reinhart gets hurt to easily. Sekera is good offensive player and he started in buffalo so i know alot about him. If u let him make mistakes and dont scare him he will be a very good player but Bogasian is better all around dman. Advantage buffalo

Gorges Pysyk
Klefbom Schultz

Offensively oilers will be better bud this will be sabres shutdown line. Pysyk is my favorite player and will be sabres best dman next year. Slight edge to Oilers

Weber Rudwedel
Gryba Fayne

You have log jam at defense so hard to predict who will play and for that reason i give advantage to oilers.

Goalie

Lehner vs Talbot

Lehner is younger and has more playing experince and played on team with bad defense so you know what ur going to get. Talbot played with one of best defense so never know. So hard to tell who will be better but since lehner is only 23 i gave advantage to buffalo.

Pretty comparable teams and will be interesting to see how these teams do next season. Very easy to be optimistic for these to teams. I dont see us fighting for last place next year.

Great write up BTW. Nurse is going to be a beast.

This fundamental belief that "skilled" players don't have to do the dirty work is where Edmonton and other teams have failed to realize what it takes to make it into the playoffs.

The only drills that McDavid wasn’t particularly good at were the shot blocking drills. Actually, he was pretty bad at it but something tells me McLellan isn’t going to tell him he needs to practice blocking shots over the summer.

This attitude is toxic in today's NHL. Toews, Doughty, Gaborik and Kane will do anything to win.

In the minors or in junior the really skilled players don't need the full package but that's where the problem comes when they get into the NHL. Even your best players need to get in those shooting lanes to take away scoring opportunities. It may not be sexy, it may cause pain and on occasion it may cause an injury but if these players are not expected to be responsible defensively the ultimate quest of a Stanley Cup is a dream.

Just look to Ovie and the Capitals. They have been good in the regular season but until Arnott got in there there was no sacrificing going on there. After Arnott Ovie has dedicated himself to becoming a better player defensively and challenges everybody on the team so the team can take the next step. I think we can all agree the Caps are much more formidable today than they were when they won the conference.

I would be happy if I saw Nurse, Reinhart, and Leon all start in the AHL next year. I know Chiarelli expects Griffin to be in the lineup, he's only played one pro year. No shame in another.

I think it would be smart for all three to play in the A... One step up from the dub and will allow those guys to develop properly...
I'm looking forward the the Prospects Tournament this year. some big (future) names will be fun to watch.

Agree- but there is no way the Oilers or league would allow McDavid to go to the minors... - just cant see it happening...

He was referring to Leon, Griffin, and Nurse.

Mcdavid isn't eligible for the A anyway. He's a lock for NHL duty.
