Really puts the heat on teh rags who need to sign Stepan... after Vlad and ROR - yen6d1
The Rag$ are in a spot for sure. If they sign Stepan for 7, it leaves them little money left to sign J.T. Miller and Etem. I suspect they'll trade him. |

Nothing against ROR or Vlad, Just seems to be a fair value for a young forward with potential - yen6d1
I think you missed everyone saying that ROR signing for 7.5 a year was going to cause the next lockout...... |

Somebody could be. The Rags and Hawks cap situations will be the big storyline this summer. |

Just looked at next years FA crop. So much money is going to be given out.
Guestimates on UFA's:
Stamkos - 80MM
Kopitar - 70MM
Voracek - 60MM
Lucic - 40MM
Perron - 40MM
then you have as RFA's
McKinnon
Monahan
Jones
Coutourier
Schenn
Schwartz
Kreider
Strome
Krug
I wouldnt be surprised to see $500MM worth of deals handed out on re-signings next year. |

I'd love to see a list of where these teams are cap wise next year. I don't think general fanager has that listed. The Sabres could really swing some deals.

It may have been a shameful undertaking, but there's something admirable about what Buffalo has done since dismantling its roster in pursuit of a top draft selection. Because after landing Evander Kane, and only narrowly missing out on Mike Babcock, the deep-pocketed Sabres have continued to take hacks, aiming straight over the fences. |

What was it, 2019 or 2020 with the extended option?
It's gonna be a rough one. Salaries are going to have to be relegated solely to offensive production for forwards and which line teams promise you for defense. Anyone worth a damn these days are going to surpass 7 million easy. |

He'll get 8 years and at least what Kane/Toews got of 10.5 per, but he'll probably get more than that since it's already been a year since they signed, and the top players don't usually get paid less than previous top players. |

Looking at 2016, the following teams have potential cap problems.
Boston- $48M tied up in only 12 players, 8 Forwards, 3 D and 1 goalie. Notable RFA's are Connolly, Krug. Pending UFA's are Loui Eriksson, Chris Kelly, Max Talbot.
Chicago- $61M tied up in 15 players, assuming Bickell and Sharp will be there. Notable RFA's are Andrew Shaw, Jeremy Morin. Pending UFA's are Brent Seabrook, Viktor Tikhonov, Versteeg.
Los Angeles- 13 players signed at $50M. Pending UFA's Kopitar, Lucic, Tevor Lewis and Enroth. Notable RFA is Brayden Mcnabb.
Minnesota- $57M tied up in only 12 players. pending UFA's are Fontaine, Backstrom, Carter. Notable RFA's include Zucker, Spurgeon, Kuemper and Dumba.
NY Rangers- what else is new, 9 players signed at $46M. If they sign and keep Stepan it gets uglier.
St. Louis- $55M on 13 players. Pending RFA's Schwartz, Jaskin. UFA's Backes, Brouwer, Gunnarsson, Ott, Brodziak.
Tampa Bay- Assuming Stamkos gets 10M, they would have 15 players signed at around $58M.
Washington- 14 players signed for $53M. Pending UFA's are Chimera, Peters, RFA's Wilson and Orlov.
Based on what some of these teams do to re-sign their RCFA's this summer, they could be in worse shape going into next year.
And this was exhausting to do. |

I made a post about Tampa a week or two ago.. I believe, after the 16-17 season, they're gonna be waaaaay up poop creek. Tons of guys will be looking for serious cash, or will have already received it the previous year.
I maintain my stance, I really want to trade for Kucherov.
Nice research though. It took me like 20 minutes to look at and post just Tampa's individual players |

You're right about TB. Over the next 2 years, they need to sign Stamkos, Palat, Johnson, Drouin, Kucherov, Hedman, Sustr and Vasilveskiy. Yeah pretty much up poop creek and no poop shovel. |

God forbid a guy like Stamkos takes 10 million a year instead of 12 million a year to stay with the team that drafted him and help them build a deeper, better team. Seriously, when you make that much, a 2 million difference is nothing.
The problem here isn't that teams are willing to pay a guy as much as they do, the problem is greedy (frank)s wanting that fraction of a bit more. If these players are actually worried about job security, then one of them needs to set a precedent and take a discount and speak out about it, explaining to the media why they chose to do it.
And I don't want to hear poop like "Oh if you knew someone else was making more than you doing the same thing but you were better you wouldn't like making less than you think you are worth" or any other bull-poop response about how no one is going to do that because blah blah...
I just think these people are greedy (frank)s. And you mean to tell me NOT EVEN ONE of these players will take SLIGHTLY less money to help his team out? I could see if a guy is making league minimum and wants a few hundred thousand more for financial security, as we all know a 1 million dollar salary in the NHL isn't a 1 million dollar salary (in all actuality, it ends up being maybe a quarter of that) but a guy making 10 million a year isn't going to miss that "extra" 2 million after taxes from the league and government. It isn't going to lift them up to the highest echelon of culture and social status and it isn't going to prevent them from doing what they want to do in the off-season or buying what they want to buy.
FFS.
I just read a story about a homeless guy who found an envelope of money (about 2500) and TURNED IT IN TO THE POLICE. Then when people found out, they started a crowdfund to raise him some money to get an apartment and some new clothes and get on his feet. It raised 5000 dollars for him. When they found him and tried to give him the money, he replied with a letter stating that he wanted the money donated to local food kitchens and pantry's (basically to city missions) and that ALL HE REALLY WANTED WAS A JOB.
This society is (frank)ed. |
