He has only broken 60 points once in his career. This is going to destroy the league. - Der Kaiser
Individual contracts do nothing.
The owners have already agreed to the number they are willing to spend on player salaries each year. Salaries cannot inflate beyond that point, so unless every team spends right to the cap, the owners are saving money compared to what they agreed to.
Individual player contracts do not inflate league-wide player salaries. That was negotiated long ago in the CBA.

I hear Karabacek looked good today, hated that pick on draft day but who knows. - Sabresfan-365
Bakes is pretty high on that guy. I didn't hate it, but it definitely wasn't the safest pick we could have made.
I think it was Murray's intention to snag a guy who could boom or bust. He seems, at this point, to be pretty under rated. Great offensive talent but still inconsistent. I won't say I'm excited about him, but I'm ready to be pleasantly surprised.
Edit: Just randomly found this tweet from Baker. Referring to Karabacek.

@TimNThen @CaptPantalones @MatthewWGR When he's "on", he looks like the best wing prospect the Sabres have. Need more of that. Was exc in TC

What's the consensus? How did eichel look? - bsabres716
Tall ? Handsome ? Check back a few pages from yesterday . I think there are 3 . But it was a mild coaches practice. nothing to really evaluate from.

Development Camp - Day 1 - Quick thoughts:
**Eichel - looked somewhat bored, but went through the drills very nicely. He does have a 2nd motor when it comes to speed - during a passing 2-0 drills each time he needed to slow his pace!
*Baptise - great hands and vision, skating has improved since last season. Rochester will be a great fit for him this year.
*Florentino - reminds me a bit of McCabe. Smooth passer and skater.
Guhle - looked a bit nervous out there, but loved his size and has great potential!
**Reinhart - looks bigger and more confident than last year. Just looks comfortable in every aspect of the game out there this afternoon.
Johnsson - best of the 4 goalies today (Belanger, Lotz and Kasdorf). Great size, moves well for a big man.
Fasching - bigger than last season! Just going to be that strong power forward in the corners and in front of the net. Better hands than I thought.
Hurley - love his skating! Next season at ND will be huge for him, but looks like his still has some developing to do overall.
**McCabe - luv him, looks to me he can challenge this year (at least make it tough for TM & Co.). Just love the way he carried himself out there today, can't wait to see him in game action!

My Thoughts from Development Camp today.
Eichel: He is as advertised, he can skate so fast and handle the puck so well, the scrub invite players were slowing him down, on 2 on 0s. He is so accurate with his wrist shot he can hit any opening he wants with ease, rarely misses the net. Man among boys.
Reinhart: His skating has improved, and he looks bigger. He's the smartest guy out there leading off all the drills. His puck handling is fantastic, players were often times passing right into his skates, and he would calmly kick it up to his blade. He is a good one, no doubt about it.
Baptiste/Bailey/Fasching: You can tell these guys got a lot better since last year. There all bigger, faster, and skate really well. These guys aren't too far off from the NHL
Florentino: He seems to be under the radar here, but I think he is a legit D prospect for us. Skates really well, He's big, and is very calm with the puck.
These are the guys I really focused on, I like what I'm seeing

Haven't followed him much this year. I remember him getting cut from the Czech jr team cuz he missed a meeting.

My take from camp today. (Yea it's been a long time since I have posted)
Top of the Class:
Eichel: as advertised, nuff said. Not gonna beat a dead horse.
Reinhart: Improved greatly from last year. Very confident out there. Stronger and faster with the same vision and smarts we drafted him 2nd overall for. Can easily make the team this year.
Needs more seasoning but could make the team:
McCabe: Looked and played the part as the vet D man in these kind of camps. Helped run drills as Reinhart was doing. Will make Tim Murray's job hard on decisions on the blue line.
Baptiste: Big Improvement as well. Great shot this kid has. Dark horse to make the team.
Best of the rest:
Bailey: Improved from last camp in all aspects. Starting to grow into his frame more and refine his raw talent. One year in Roch will have him competing for a job here in Buffalo.
Fasching: I like his heavy game. skating has improved. Will be a leader back in school this fall.
Florentino: Smooth skater with crisp passing.
Rodrigues: He and Eichel fed of each other into comfort zones. Could see him competing next year for a job.
Guhle: I like his size and athleticism, but he definitely needs to grow. 3 years from now he could be veeeerrryy good.
Chukarov: could be a steal for where we got him. his shot and passing were nice. His defensive game I didnt get a chance to see much of.
Goalies:
Johansson: Best goalie out there. His size does help but his positioning was on point. Looked very confident in net.
Kasdorf: Played very well. His positioning was also good.
