Look, I'm not saying these are automatically bad moves. However, I also think it's more than just a little silly to think that they won't have repercussions. He gave up a lot to land what he did. There's no getting around it. - buffalofan19
This, there already has been minor repercussions.
1 year ago we were talking about how our blue line would be one of the strongest in the league.....it now has a glaring hole.
With Risto moving to the left side (possibly) A pair of Risto/Myers could have been a formidable top pair that complemented each other. |

Never understood the hate for him. The line of him, Curtis Brown, and Miroslav Satan were a big reason the Sabres got through the playoffs in 1999. |

The flip side, though, is that they still would have next to nothing as far as scoring wingers are concerned.
I also think Myers needed to get out of here in order to have a chance to reach his full potential. The damage had already been done, and he needed a change of scenery more than any player on this roster. |

While that may be true, IMO letting him play another year on a better team could have increased his value to where he's traded for someone of Kane's caliber straight up.
Kane and Myers were very similar. Young players with early success, consistency issues, and had sort of a worn out welcome.
I feel the same about Grigo. If he would have played here next year, and put in 35-45 points. His value would have shot up from where it is now
with that being said....Murray got the guys he wanted....can't fault him |

Why does myers have to be on this team to have a good defense? So we now have a hole on defense.. we had about 5 of them on offense.
Maybe if darcy didnt go 10 years for ehrhoff, or he didnt quit on the team we wouldnt be talking about having a hole on the left side.
I believe he is still a free agent.. how great would that be.

I don't think people are female doging about losing one prospect in particular. I'm a little disappointed in losing Zadorov, but I can live with it under the principle that you have to give to get. However, what is a little concerning is the sheer number of prospects that Tim Murray has unloaded, and they're all decently high picks.
Armia, Compher, Grigorenko, Lemieux, and Zadorov were all drafted in the first two rounds. That doesn't even take into consideration the two first rounders, number 31, and Tyler Myers that was traded away. That's a lot of personnel that was given up. Now, there is a good chance these trades could pan out, but the reality is, Tim Murray has a lot of work to do to restock what was once a full prospect cupboard. I was hoping Murray would trade a few prospects and picks to try to improve the team. What I didn't expect was for him to trade almost all of them. - buffalofan19
zadorov stings. other than that it was using prospects and picks as currency to get the right players. sure, he paid a premium, he could have had sam gagner for a song. but sam gagner is not a guy thats gonna get you to june hockey. he picked young players that he thinks are the guys that you win with. |

Grigo quickly became the odd man out. He had no spot here even on the wing IMO.
Is it this year or next that myers NMC kicks in?

His potential stings. Don't get me wrong I liked the way he looked some games but other games he was god awful. In my honest opinion I don't think Grigo or Zadorov will ever make a big impact for an NHL team. Again my opinion but I think in 3 years we will look back and say what a great trade. |

You can only have 50 players under contract. The Sabres had to trade several prospects. It was not an option. I see Grigo, Armia, Lemieux, and Compher is middling prospects at best. They are not potential first or second liners in the NHL. @nd round picks mean nothing. O'Reilly, Kane and Bogosian are woth 20 second round prospect. |

First O'Reilly's brother, now this.
I wonder if the head coach at BU has been offered a job in Buffalo's front office, or maybe Eichel's father. |

who was Zads partner? Risto? Love what he brings to the table as well, but Risto has his young issue such as Zads. Both were leaned on to do heavy lifting together.
Zads is still unproven and needs more development but now he will have either partners in more proven and established dmen in Johnson or Barrie who do the heavy lifting for their pairings. I think that gives him a really good chance at meeting his potential |

So, we went from Bryan Trottier, Danny Flynn and Tom Coolen to Terry Murray, Dave Barr and Dan Lambert.
Anyone care to comment on whether we have a vastly improved assistant coaching staff? |

Vastly improved, but we had to give up 800 prospects to get them. |

Zadorov was one of my favorite players. A combo of Skating, Size, and dude is mean! I love his edge. When he grows into his frame and has elite coaching, he will be a star, maybe an All-Star.
You should be very happy with him. He showed more fire and toughness in his 1st year than Myers did his entire time here. We often forget that our Top Dman a literal giant on skates was on the ice when Miller got frieght trained by Lucic, it was embarrasing for all players on the ice but I expect my Dmen to be first in his face and Lucic wouldn't be able to reach Myers if he had just grabbed him and starting throwing haymakers, which is what he should have done! |
