Since free agency is dragging on, anyone think a guy like Eric Fehr could be had on a cheaper (~$1.5M) deal that was expected? I think it could be like a Vokoun situation, where he priced himself out of a deal and had to settle for less than expected int he end. He's the only remaining forward UFA that I'd have interest in. - jmatchett383
I don't know about his salary demands, but for the right price, I'd certainly have interest. He's an underrated player.

I probably would have interest if someone was moved. I don't really see a spot for him right now unless Laughton and Cousins start the year in the AHL.. Have to think your forwards right now are:
Small sample size obviously, but he didn't look remotely ready for the NHL last year. Losing a year of development really hurts. I'm hoping the end product is he's a facsimile of Torey Krug. That is best case scenario with Ghost. - PLindbergh31
Torey Krug is what I was hoping to see when I thought of projections, although I think he's faster and has a harder shot than Krug, and is a better passer.

Agreed. Slight upgrade with the puck and a huge downgrade without it. MDZ is no defensive shutdown player, but Schultz borders on inept defensively. - jmatchett383
The Oilers essentially had him playing mid-field at one point with 2 D men behind him and 2 forwards in from of him.

I'd have no problem putting VdV on the bench if we could put Fehr in his spot. Also, I think that Laughton has a spot to lose at camp, but think Cousins would have to earn one.

if he signed for that cheap why would he want to come here? one would think better teams would be interested. - rinaldo
I don't know, and I'm not the Flyers GM. But as time drags on, I feel that it would be in the best interest of the team to approach him with an offer in that area. And if he says no either because he's holding out for more $$ or doesn't wanna come, then you thank him for his time speaking with you and move on. But as more and more time passes, chances are he'd be willing to take less money, and it's a matter of what teams would be willing to match that (or come close) that he'd rather play for.

Actually I think Vandevelde and White both have cap hits that can be buried in the AHL if needed.
I like Fehr too and think he would be a solid 3rd line player. I still have a feeling that one of Read or Simmonds are moved before the season starts. No concrete info but just a feeling.

I don't think Simmonds moves unless it's for a bona fide young, veteran top pair defenseman (i.e. not for Phaneuf). Read I think will eventually be moves as a cap casualty, but moving him now would be selling a player at his lowest.
I'd bury VdV if I had to, but I'd like to keep White on as the 13th forward (although "technically" that would be VLC).

I wouldn't mind have fehr as a depth player. He's got speed, he's big, strong, plays good defense. We really don't have much room for him though.

Yeah. I wouldn't mind using Simmonds to move Macdonald or Vinny's contracts. Could you move them to Arizona for a pick and Branden Perlini who is a LW. Could you maybe get Virtanen from Vancouver. I don't know. I just have some gut feeling that either Read or Simmonds are moved.

sure you can talk to him. I would as well. for that money I just see better teams going after him. obviously it is his call
