The player would still get paid as per his contract, but the NHL club would have to pay the junior club the full NHL salary as well.

Does that come out of escrow?

Not related to HRR or any related accounts. Strictly out of the owners' pocketspockets as an expense, much like travel and meals.

My kid is 17. Played 74 games last season. He's been sleeping since march. We change him twice a day.

i give it 5 mins until someone brings up the Red Wings and their unblemished record of developing 100% of their prospects into NHL stars by nurturing and seasoning them for 6 years after drafting

I think the NHL club would give a big giant (frank) you to that arrangement.

just pissed off thinking about Luca Sbisa and how the flyers RUINED HIS CAREER by forcing him to play in the nhl

If the Flyers could get Sanheim and Provorov pro playing time in the AHL this year, they'd happily pay.

Maybe, maybe not. But how would certain other franchises that don't have the deep pockets of the Flyers feel about shelling out what amounts to double the NHL salary so their prospects can play in the AHL.

And what would the cap ramifications be? If any.

Oh right, I forgot that every NHL team should have the same amount of gross capital to spend on their team expenses outside of player salary.

If they don't feel like shelling out the money so that the owners son gets a new BMW that summer, then they don't have that option. Its like spending money or coaches and GMs: the teams with the most money can offer them more lucrative contracts. Being a more financially successful franchise allows you more freedom with your income.

Like I said, not HRR or cap related except for the pro-rated time spent on the NHL roster (if any).

I agree with your premise..

Maybe tweak it a bit.

If you want your player to get AHL seasoning you have to pay the CHL team who possess his rights a pre-determined price based off of his draft position.

-IE: Top 10- 1 Million dollars
Rest of 1st round 700k
2nd- 350k
3/7th- 150k

The punishment for the team is that he burns a year off of his ELC.

Poor teams would complain this gives rich teams a competitive advantage (rich teams can afford to season their prospects in the AHL with no cap ramifications).

I think paying up to double his salary for one year is punishment enough. Imagine if Phoenix wanted to bring up Strome for this year and next: That's $1.85M (or, in your scenario, $2M) for a player who may or may not ever play one NHL game. No reason to have to burn the contract years at the same time (although the PA would love it).

No, I have not yet hired an attorney studied in sports finances to cover all of the bases, but I think an agreement of this sort (basically, allow a CHL team to recoup or exceed its losses in revenue due to losing a top player) could be worked out.

Solid article Bill. When reading this much information on the top prospects I tend to get really excited. I am not sure there has been this much potential in the system for the Flyers in the past 15 years let alone ever. I really like where this team is heading under Hextall, he seems to making good calls all around. The handling and drafting of young players seems to be something he is very strong at, the next big step for Hextall is getting contracts taken care and not over paying like Homer and crew. It will be interesting to see how he handles the likes of Vorachek, B Schenn, Couturier, and more importantly now Del Zotto.

Yes, it does give them an advantage.
They also have an advantage in offer sheeting players.
They also have an advantage in hiring front office personnell.
They also have an advantage in free agency.
They also have an advantage in trades.
If you make more money, you will have a competitive advantage.

London probably has. Oshawa probably did. Not only that, but I'm sure that guys like Lindros, Crosby, McDavid, etc. drove gates around the CHL whenever they were on the road. They're basically AHL teams that give their players stipends instead of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

It doesn't list profit, but it does list revenue.

Only one way to describe that slam... hellacious

I'm picturing a late season game against Boston; Rinaldo goes to run someone and Morin grabs him by the throat and chokeslams him.

It will be a beautiful thing to behold.

As Rinaldo goes though their air, his skate blade lacerates Marchand's leg, slicing through his ACL and forcing him to retire.

expenses are subtracted from the gross HRR to get to the cap related HRR.
