So I have faith in his system--he has blueliners who *try* to model their games after Orr (Ghost), Pronger (Morin), and Lidstrom (Provorov)--and that doesn't include Sanheim. - sdrowkcab

I think the word need is a bit much. That type of d-man still exists, but is rapidly dying out. Less and less teams structure their defense around physical grinding d-men. The sport is to fast and skilled for that type of guy any more.
However, while hockey is still evolving, you will continue to see these guys, albeit fewer and fewer in numbers. They remind me a lot of true enforcers. There really isnt a need for that type of player anymore. - jak521
I don't think it's about the sport evolving at all. I think it's about the available talent pool. Every team would love to have 6 defenseman that are mobile, can handle the puck, and have the physical size and ability to play in all situations. It's just not available for every team. So they look to defenseman that can play roles. Also some teams have a young defense, and want some veterans for the short term to do some of the heavy lifting, to not place too much responsibility on the younger players. Still need to defend, and play in the corners and around the net. There will be less jobs available to limited players such as Grossmann, but there will always be a spot for the good ones, of that kind of player, in the NHL. |

Phoenix got that player in Pronger

Guess that explains why their a dumpster fire - Just5

I never knew I had innate psychic powers until I it was time for the Haribo Bears to exit my body. The stress on my cranium from the final "push" awakened something deep within me. The mental energy shock wave I released upon finishing destroyed most of the bathroom - especially the few feet around the toilet - but I can't seem to be angry. These little guys just taste too good. Thanks Haribo. |

Matt Clavert signed for 3 years, $2.2m AAV in CBJ. He's a LW I was hoping the Flyers could trade for. |

Ghost will never even sniff Bobby Orr. He's more like a Mike Green type, who was a poor man's Paul Coffey. |

I like him too.
I was hoping if they couldn't sign del zotto maybe they flip him for calvert since CBJ needs defense.
I think calvert would be a good winger with Laughton on the 3rd line. |

If he's sitting in the Suite next to you how badly do you heckle him? Bad enough for him to get up and come over so you can get his autograph? |
