i dunno man i havent done all the math on this yet.
maybe he gets a shot due to injury and his play forces hakstol to keep him in. - Crimsoninja
I get it.
Maybe he does. But from everything you see and reading between the lines on things I don't even think Hextall and Hakstol see Vinny as an option. |

If you ever witnessed him drinking beer and hitting on people you'd realize that he deserves a little latitude. |

I agree. Him and beroobs obviously had a bit of a rift, maybe him and hakstol get along real well, and hakstol figures out a way to bring the best in vinny out. Same with RJ. I don't think either of them bouncing back is unrealistic at all.

Stamkos tops 16 biggest contract years in ’16

Voracek is #6. - Feanor
Just a little surprised that Seabrooke is listed at 9th. After Stamkos and Kopitar that is the next contract that will be the most interesting to see, for me.

I would give a healthy Umberger a much better chance at a bounce-back season than VLC. |

I think that you are being facetious here, and not entirely truthful.

I'm surprised Voracek is 6th. Only 5 players have more pt/g over the last 3 seasons than Jake. He's also only 27, so an 8-year contract would cover most of his prime. |

one would think if vinny real wants to continue his career he will bust his ass in training camp and force the coach to play him; if it is warranted. |

In all seriousness his next contract I think will be fascinating, to see how Hextall handles it.
In the past when they had a perceived core player they went for the contract with crazy long years.
I am hoping with Jake the deal is not too long. 4-5 years would be ideal. Doubt it happens but we'll see. 5-6 years would be a nice compromise, 7-8 is too long IMO. |

FWIW:
“One of things you are going to find from me is not a lot of labels in terms of lines,” Hakstol said of where Couturier fits. “We’re gonna try to put together four good lines that work together well and help us be successful.
Should be fun to see what the combinations actually are. |

I don't think it's impossible for him to win a job at camp, but he's going to have to outplay a few people. But yeah, he needs to come to camp as if he was a rookie. |

The problem is that when you do a short deal then your cap hit will be a lot higher then the longer deal. Sometimes your going to need to sacrifice years to keep the cap space down when your trying to resign other core players. |

I just don't think it matters. I think he is trying his best but just doesn't have the legs anymore to be effective. |

This. You can't back-dive the way you used to, but you can use the Tarasenko method where they gave him the biggest money right after the half-way point of the contract to save money on the end years. Otherwise you're subject to the 35% rule. |

I get that but would rather see a shorter deal for more dollars, personally.
I think if things don't work out you aren't locked into it then. |

That could be, and if that's the case, maybe he'll realize it. Basically, this may be his last legit shot at being an NHL player. If he honestly can't outplay anyone on our roster, he's probably not an NHL-caliber player. |
