Ya.. And now it's 10 years later where points have drastically went down. It's not the same league as it used to be. Nobody even hit 100 last year and I don't think anybody did the year before either but I could be wrong. Bottom line is goals are down, put down the cool aid.
- Sirmerksalot

Goalies and their equipment are too big now plus many teams are emphasizing blocking shots, so I expect scoring will continue to be down.

Check my other post. Look back at the stats even in the 48 game season 60pts was tops. 104 last year and over 100 years prier to that. I don't know how many people have brought up last year when it comes to point total expectations for Mcdavid. Just doesn't make sense to me that's all. Its like last year is the expectation for point totals from here on out in the nhl and supposable dropping, math doesn't add up for this guy.

All I am saying is don't be upset if he only bits 60-70 points (which is very good for a rook) people need to let the kid breath.

All I am saying is expect him to get over 100 in an NHL season and we will be happy when he does. Also he wont have time to breath man it comes with the territory. Top sports players, Famous Actors politicians that smoke crack lol etc....

Oh I might have misunderstood..
I thought you meant he is going to get 100+ points in his rookie season.
I don't doubt at all he is going to start getting 100+ points in his career, just not for a few years.

They will be close but not because of the moves PC has made.

McLellan is the biggest difference and he was brought in by Nicholson and Mact.

Sekera is an upgrade on Petry. Talbot we will have to wait and see. The rest has only been tinkering.

Hope the natural progression of guys does the rest.

One thing I will admit is if this group of players figure it out, they have enough talent on this team to be the next dynasty. But thats always been the hardest part of hockey clubs and really all team pro sports. Having a roster of talent doesn't win you championships unless you get it all figured out. Hockey more than other sports, confidence completely changes a teams game. If these kids can mesh and move forward confidently, like the Islanders did last season for 80% of the year, they may be able to put together a foundation to move forward with and be successful.

Agreed- and I was very happy for Islander fans to experience actual progression in their team... Should only get better for them as well...

It will. Because we just gave them their second line center for the next 15 years for a bust dman.

I didn't like that deal at all. Reinhart was overtaken in the Isles depth chart by 2 other D. We have to hope that the change to the Oil will help him in his development but we still gave up too much for him.

Well I just did....got a few bets with people that always have that same argument about last year. Year before was 104 before that was 60 in the short 48 season. Also the two before that was 109 and 104. So that 87 last season doesn't really have an argument on our average leading point totals in the NHL. All I am saying is for oilers fans and fans out west believe the hype and enjoy it because like I said before is if he plays a season he will be in the top of the league in points and if everybody else decides to max out in the 80 point totals again then I guess he will 1st. OHL almost three point's a game NHL he will drop to 1.5 or so.
- NorthofE-Town

And how many players had over 100 the year before? I highly doubt he scores a PPG, let alone 100
